Eagles have to use their first draft pick this year under the AFL rules - so if they wanted LJ they’d have to get AFL approval. It’s not impossible, but I can’t see HQ loving it.

Apparently very likely (almost guaranteed) HQ would approve it.

The sharpest steak knives I've seen was Jack Crisp, who was part of the Dayne Beams deal.

Greg Miller with North negotiated a transfer fee of 60k for John Longmuire with the Swans.

To sweeten the deal he asked the Swans to throw in Wayne Carey for an extra 10k. Swans agreed.

Carey has been on record referring to himself as steak knives.

I hope this is a bunch of toilet paper:

AFL trade news, rumours, whispers: Luke Jackson buys Western Australian property, move to Fremantle Dockers, Lachie Whitfield available, Paddy Dow, Deven Robertson, Rhys Mathieson (foxsports.com.au)

Melbourne star Luke Jackson’s move to Fremantle has gained further momentum, with 7 News Perth’s Ryan Daniels reporting the 20-year old in March purchased a $1.74 million house in Western Australian suburb Shelley.

Has this been reported anywhere? Not questioning what you’re saying, just intrigued as it’ll make a joke of the draft rules.

Cal Twomey said on SEN a few weeks back he'd expect it to be ticked off due to Jackson's age & original draft pick he was selected at, for what it's worth

Really! That’s mind blowing. Thanks.

The rule pretty much only exists to stop silly clubs like North trying to offer 5x future first rounders for a single player

I personally think clubs should be able to trade several years into the future if they wanted to

I’m terms of list management paying two ruckman 1.5 million plus a year, and they both don’t play that well forward isn’t a great idea?

Does anyone think Jye Amiss is worth taking a look at from Freo?

Another kid from WA - is it worth the risk that this kind of drama could happen all over again?

Nathan Jones (who played 4 games with LJ in 2020) who is more qualified than anyone else in the media to comment on Jackson had some thoughts on SEN tonight:

1) the money being bandied around is ludicrous for LJ

2) LJ is far too an inconsistent a player to warrant such money.

3) LJ coming to Freo has the potential to be a culture killer for Fremantle. Not sure if he was referring to the magnitude of money that would be going to the one player or the player himself being a culture killer.

The rule was brought in to stop struggling/re-building teams from thinking short term and bringer in older players.

Confidence in HQ approving is bc LJ is 20, and as close to a fresh draft pick as you can get.

Answering your question, I have heard it spoken about publicly, but can’t remember where

Matthew Lloyd on 3AW stated that Jackson is pretty much gone.

People can still say all they want that these comments from media people have no idea what's going on, but there's now enough jungle drums beating and it seems fairly certain he's gone.

You do wonder how this effects the morale in the team. Could it be a distraction or are they able to just brush it off mentally.

I doubt the players would care to be honest, just focused on the job at hand

The money.

Nathan Jones is spot on. Paying a guy a mil a year on potential is insanity. LJ would walk in as their most highly paid player having played like 40 games, and shown brilliant flashes but not been able to perform consistent. It’s a big roll of the dice
