If his parents are moving from Perth to Melbourne, it's not just him that has committed long term, it's the whole family. Love it.

I remember the Jack Watts/Nik Nat draft and thinking that we had to take Watts as there was no way we could hold onto Natanui as he would go back home. I still believe this. However if that draft was today you’d take him every time. We have come a long, long way. 

Who else just jumped straight over to melbournefc.com.au to see if the news had dropped yet?

I believe it's still just the Canberra Times reportage from October 11th filtering through to social media and people reading it as gospel. Not saying it's not true but nothing has been confirmed nor has there been any other whispers except from that CT article screenshotted below.

The screenshot above mentions The West Australian but I was not able to find anything in any article from the The West Australian reporting about Jackson being on the verge of committing long term or being joined by his parents.

If the joined by his parents part is true then that is huge.

Pretty sure it’s referring to him, being West Australian…not the newspaper.

Don't want to be a party pooper, but honestly, I don't get too excited about the length of these signings these days, because anything further than 2 years out is almost meaningless.  All signing him up beyond 2022 will acheive right now is to reduce some of the media chatter and speculation early next season.  Come 2023 or even late 2022, if things arn't looking rosy for any of the respective parties and the talk will start again.  As seen with Bobby Hill, Lobbe and Lauchie Neil and closer to home, Jessy Hogan, players are increasingly requesting trades inside their contacted period.

About the only thing having them contracted does is give the club slightly better leverage for extracting a reasonable trade in the instance they want out.

Best way of retaining Dogga is keep winning and keep him happy.  I think Dogga is also shrewd in recognising the value of playing with and learning from Max over the next few years.  All these things should be a win/win for the MFC and the individuals involved, so I put more weight on that than any contract that's announced.

True. But what it does do is provide protection for the club, as we either don't have to trade or can ask for a hefty price or no deal.

It's better to have a contract in place than not.

Hugh McCluggage led the competition for goal assists in 2021 with an average of 1.29 per game.  That average placed him in the top 10 ever for a season (since they've been keeping records).  Only 11 players this year averaged at least 1.0 per game.

Jackson had 4 in the GF, which is the most for the year.  A teenage ruck did that in a GF.  He's a remarkable talent who's as clean as you'd ever see below his knees.

That's on the CT, they should refer to him as a Western Australian, given he comes from the state of Western Australia and not West Australia....

I understand your points RG and I agree but after the Hogan saga I think we would all prefer Jackson to be signed and sealed as oppose to a another year of media speculation in VIC and WA.

Just to add on to this, I’ve got firm mail from inside the club telling me a long contract will be made public next week. Apparently Dogga’s agent is also Jordan Clark’s, so he’s been pretty busy sorting out his contract first. 
I only made my demonland account this year, but I was going to do it around this time last year (but couldn’t be bothered in the end) as my same source told me Hannan was out the door about a week before anyone in the media or demonland had a sniff of it. My mate doesn’t give me much mail, but when he does it’s very solid.
Just to actually add on to that, it was less of Hannan really wanting to leave, and more toward Goody just not really rating him.

To see Lukes mum absolutely ecstatic and dressed in complete red and blue says volumes.

Just between you and me I think Luke may have told his mum what a great place the MFC is at the moment.

There is the benchmark for other clubs:- rather than have players moving back home, be in that good a shape, that players families move to you!

Nothing lasts forever but in recent years we've told Watts to find a new home, gently suggested Hogan move back to Perth and then let fringe players in Preuss, Frost, Hannan and Kent find better deals elsewhere (and tried to do the same with McDonald and ANB).

Most of our core - Gawn, Salem, Lever, Brayshaw haven't ever been linked anywhere else. Viney had a tricky free agency decision to make but recommitted. Petracca wanted to play more midfield, the club very calmly said get fit and you'll be in the guts, he did and he's been as happy as can be since. Oliver clearly went through some stuff last year, Goody and the club didn't panic, they knew a fresh set of assistant coaches and the team bouncing back would take care of that.

If Jackson's family really do relocate to Melbourne then that mostly takes care of the go home factor which is still the biggest draw card for a lot of trades. Look at Dawson and Cerra, the only big names to move this year. After that then yeah it's a matter of him getting his development as a player and person right and the club holding up their end of the bargain.

As I said, nothing is forever, but if he signed on for 4 more years I think a fair bit would have to go wrong for him not be at the club for at least 3. And judging by our recent moves we've been pretty good at working out who should stay.
