It’s back again and here are some of the highlights of today: —

* "After seeing Luke Jackson's impact at Melbourne, perhaps clubs will be more willing to use high draft picks on a ruckman" — Kane Cornes

* "Everyone in footy is aware he's going to finish his career in Melbourne..." — Mitch Cleary on Ben King.

* "I think Peter Ladhams needs to find a club where he will be the number one man, rather than going to be a second ruckman" — Brendon Goddard

* "It's been amazing. It's been such a long time coming, trying to rebuild and get the club to the position it is now in. There's been moments where I'm just driving and it hits me and even a few tears start to come" — Todd Viney

* "Geelong are going to go again... they need to fill a legitimate void in defence and Daniel Talia could be that man for the next couple of years." — Brendon Goddard

* "The issue for Jarrod Brander is West Coast's list will change dramatically next season... if he waits a bit longer he's the next man in." — Nick Dal Santo

* "Rival clubs, including Essendon have started to pick up the phone on St Kilda contracted player Ben Long". — Mitch Cleary

• "Brisbane has shown an interest in Levi Casboult." — Sam Edmund

* "Collingwood are really confident they will get Patrick Lipinski from the Bulldogs and Nathan Kreuger from the Cats" — Sam Edmund

* "He thinks he'll be playing elsewhere if given a chance, Port Adelaide are one of the clubs interested." — Sam Edmund on out of contract Hawk Tim O'Brien.

* "The rookie list should be there for the rookies, the AFL needs to clean it up, clubs are bringing in players who've played over 200 games on the rookie list." — Stephen Silvagni

* "They don't need to panic. They just need to hold their nerve as they can trade picks on the night to get what they need to match." — Stephen Silvagni on the Pies situation with Nick Daicos

* "My information is Mac Andrew goes in the top five - I think to GWS. A shame for Melbourne as he is in their NGA." — Matt Rendell

* Rival clubs have started to make enquiries on contracted Saint Ben Long  — Mitch Cleary

Geelong will go again. Please and lol.

They will, they're essentially forced to aren't they? No first round pick this year, and a late second rounder.

They probably try to pickup a couple of free older players as per usual cause it's literally all they can do.

Yeah seems a tad ridiculous that he's sky-rocketing when he hasn't played

reckon rendell has his wires crossed - gw$ have two top 20 picks; they'll presumably use their second one (pick 13 currently) to land mac andrew

clearly mobile, ball-hunting and quick-moving ruck / forward hybrid players are going to be in hottt demand given the impact luke jackson has had in his first two seasons

they're all missing that dogga joined us at nearly 90kg and is already up to 100kg; andrew will join his new club at just 70kg by comparison

jackson is one out of the box tho

Their fall will be epic.

They may enter next season with the oldest list in AFL history and almost zero under 21 talent.

3-5 years from now Geelong will be asking for priority picks.

Both the Scott brothers must have the same philosophy because they both loaded up with older players to win premiership and then fall of the cliff in the finals.

Geelong may make the finals but don't perform 2018 we done them, 2019 collingwood did them, 2020 got to the grand final the hard way and fell in a heap in the 2nd half and 2021 got to the preliminary final and got done by the premiers.

Youthful sides like Melbourne are now the template for winning finals and premierships like us, Hawthorn 2008, Bulldogs in 2016 and Richmond in 2017, then filling holes with top up players in their late 20's al la Hawthorn 2013-2015 with Lake and Frawley.

Mitch and Riley talking about the Dees out of contract. Basically, they don't know a lot and assume that everyone out of contract will get a year extension. Nothing about trading any players. But they didnt talk with any authority.

* "The talk is St Kilda feel they will get Ben King, but you wonder if Essendon will get their picks right to be in the window." — Matthew Lloyd

* "St Kilda have told Dean Kent and Jack Lonie they'll have to wait until the end of trade period for a new deal." — Mitch Cleary

* "If Mitchito Owens, who is a St Kilda academy player gets selected inside the top 20 - they won't be able to match a bid on him...A lot of the clubs I've spoken to like him in the 15-20 range." — Riley Beveridge

* "Majak Daw is a really interesting one... I think he has a chance to stay on the list next year...but more as a backup ruckman … I think Oskar Baker gets a one year deal most likely (at Melbourne)." — Mitch Cleary

The general talk is of a quiet trade week due to the salary cap squeeze. Doesn’t bode well for Cats/Pies etc who need to load up. In fact a couple of Geelong youngsters want out ice heard

i have been wishing for a Geelong fall for years but surely it has to happen. Selwood, Danger and Hawk should decline soon

Matt Rendell on Trade Radio just said Melbourne should take the captaincy off Gawn and give it to Petracca.

Is this guy a bigger [censored] than Robbo I wonder???

Yeah just heard that. SOS was agreeing with him. They both seem to be of the opinion that Jackson isn’t all that great either.

It's a sad, sad day when Damien Barrett is talking the most sense in a discussion about football!😳

LOL. Given how well  he selected players while at Carlton and GWS I'm not taking anything SOS says about player talent seriously.

Take the captaincy off Gawn? WTF are these guys on about?

Wish they were running our club, so we could get the number 1 draft pick each year.

This is the guy who said Collingwood would jump back in to the 8 next year.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
