There's a clear flaw when Petracca gets 23 out of 30 votes available (76%) but is beaten for the award by someone who got 25 out of 40 (62.5% of the votes available).

"Macrae didn't poll in the Grand Final" says it all.

Surely the simple solution is that all players get their three best games counted.

Done, issue over. Still fair to the four-game players without giving any ridiculous advantage.

Like your suggestion

Simples... at the completion of the final series a panel of 'experts' (or even Gary Ayres himself) vote 3,2,1 for their choice of best player in the final series.

I'm sure he'll treasure that award.

Straight to the pool room.

CP5-couldn't give a stuff.

It could be a meaningful award but it needs to be more than just stats or subjective opinion. Then the best player would be clearly displayed. They need to sort this out: for the sake of Gary Ayres who must cringe at its irrelevance, but also because it should genuinely be a prestigious award. Finals showcase the best of our game.

Who gave Caleb Daniel 3 votes, Goody or Bevo? Goody feeling a bit generous? Or Bevo taking the [censored] with favouring his own players?

That would be Bevo. Bontempelli 1 vote I can understand, but Daniel 3rd best on ground?  🤦‍♀️

If Clarry  Choo Choo wasnt player of finals then I am Sgt Shultz

I KNOW NOTHING

TRAC CLOSE SECOND! In fact

IM CALLING IT A TIE !! CLARRY AND TRAC🤩

Jeez, they need to rethink that award…

Honestly who cares. MaCrae can have the GA Medal. Trac will just have to be content with a Premiership and Norm Smith Medal. No doubt Christian is shattered 😄

That’s my point.

That’s not the point.
We all know Tracc wouldn’t  give a rat’s, but it is a discussion of a totally flawed AFL award.

How many goals did Fritter get for the year IN THE END?

Pretty sure it was one more than Coleman Medal winner McKay

couldnt be bothered looking up Tomahawk’s finals campaign 🤮

59.

McKay 58

Floppy Elbows Hawkins 62

Absolutely elite from a medium forward.

GF votes should be weighted to be 1.5 or 2.0x for the very reason most people stated.

this is the definition of a bureaucrat award.

well it’s good to feel a bit of outrage back on this site! it’s been strangely absent now for weeks.,

Daniel had a lot of the ball, a lot of intercepts and a lot of turnovers. I felt like we were happy for him to be the one we let of the leash. I think we put a lot of work into a bunch of Dogs players, including Weightman, Liberatore, McCrae and Bailey Smith who were all kept much quieter than usual. Assuming we didn't put work into him, then I'm not sure that Goodwin could have him 3rd best on ground (because he did what he thought he would, and would probably rate our defensive efforts to stop key players a bit higher), so I think it has to be Bevo who gave him the votes

Treloar is the other one we allowed to run around a bit.

There's some truth in there ...

That leaves us in the exact same situation though doesn’t it? Macrae would have had the advantage of extra game, effectively being able to discard his worst game, which was the GF.

I personally would have had Bailey Smith ahead of him across the first 3 finals anyway. Macrae doesn’t excite me much at all.

Great thing is, this club doesn't care one bit for individual awards!!!

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
