Oliver is my favourite. He is a big game, pressure player. If it is a tough contest he usually rises to the top and is a big part of us getting to the line.

But if the heat goes out of it early, then it will be one of the more outside players. Petracca an obvious choice, Brown not an outside chance if he gets on the end of a few he could finish with 5.

Smokey for May or Lever. They'll probably deserve it. But as key defenders it would need to be a close game in which they dominate in the last quarter to get the nod I reckon.

Edit: Surely Gawn couldn't play like that 2 games in a row?.

Salem is my smokey

I hope it’s Oliver because if he wins it I think we win it too.
Trac obviously a big chance if he kicks a few goals.

On the Dogs end I would go McRae or Bont.

If BBB kicks 9 as I'm hoping, then I reckon he's a shot.

I think Jack Viney might play his greatest ever game and earn the Norm Smith.

He has had 2 awesome finals and looks as fit as he ever has. He is ready to explode.

I've been thinking the same about Oliver. If it is close he will just go to another level.

If we win by a bit Petracca or even Kozzie could be a bit more flashy.

If we lose Bont. Viney will smash Libba.

Yep. Viney is my tip. Shut down Libba, set the standard for his teammates.

It is a shame that no Melbourne player has won the award named after our own great. Let's all hope it changes.

Viney for sure.

Petracca and Gawn a hot second and third in my tips. Clarrie up there too of course.

Viney, Oliver or Petracca if we win.

Smith, Naughton or Bont if we lose.

i hope it's petracca coz i know clarry will play a blinder.......coz he always does

so if petracca plays better and clarry has a blinder we have to win

qed

I’m tipping Viney will win it regardless if we win or lose.

Hold your horses!

Let's hope the Demons win the Grand Final first!

As for possible Norm Smith medalists take your pick from Clayton Oliver, Christian Petracca, Max Gawn, Jack Viney or Jake Lever.

It would be great to finally have a player win from the team that Norm is so strongly associated with. Wish his son/grandson presented it. Norm’s widow, Marj presented the first one to Wayne Harmes (her nephew) but never did another ones (pretty sure Barassi did it in 1980, Peter Smith did it in 1981, no idea who did it after that.)

That could just as easily be Luke Jackson.

Maxy is a big chance. The man in on a mission and completely at ease with himself and the world since slotting that after the siren goal v Geelong

Gawn. Has Stef Martin up against him, who will be in the sub vest half way through the game.

Salem for me.

With that said the Dogs seem not to tag in the midfield so Oliver, Petracca  Gawn and Viney have to be a chance if we win.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
