Laughing at a mental image of Meggs speaking like Yoda....

On another note, I hope that Gil, if he's reading the votes, doesn't fall into that "Melbourne,  C...............Oliver/Petracca" garbage.

Assume the lads will organise for the smart suits or at least trendy looking smart casual gear for the Brownlow. I’m sure Langers and Trac as MFC “fashionistas” will set the standard.

Also can someone help Clarry prepare an acceptance speech, just in case he nails it!!!

My guess is it will be Bont, as Oliver, Trac and Max take too many off each other...

Just as Trac and Max take votes away from Oliver, McRae and Libba will take them away from Bont as well.

its well know that the AFLCA award is the one that has the most meaning behind it as the others namely AFLPA & Brownlow is compromised somewhat.

It’s gonna be one boring events. Two clubs with 75 people each who can’t drink and can’t mingle. Fun times.
Brownlows are boring at the best of times. This will be a total hoot. Just hope Clarry is in the mix late to keep it exciting.

My wife and her sister only watch it for the red carpet gowns. I'm not sure there will even be that this year.....

The AFL are going to look a bit silly having a two week break between the Prelims and the Grand Final with only this snooze fest to keep people interested.

He will.

Meggs anticipates Ollie Wines to vote very strongly but expects Jack Steele to surprisingly pilfer the Charlie. With 5 All Australians, Meggs can’t see one of Clarry, Trac, Gawn, Lever or May accruing sufficient votes to win it.  But Meggs is still hopeful one of them can…after all it’s the year of the Dees!

Missed one!!!

Would love to see Clarry win it. Deserving IMO.

But I think it will go to Wines. Apart from Boak he doesn't have the level of competition for votes that Clayton has with Gawn, Trac, Lever etc.

The only reason that Clarrie might not win the Brownlow - we are full of great competitors in this very special year, robbing one another of the alleged votes. Still, that combination dominated the season from start to finish, and will again in the GF. Lever could be thrown into this mix, as well.

Anyone else feel that Petracca is a good chance? Even thought about putting something down with his odds today.

I know the two midfield studs are going to steal votes off each other (along with ol Rick and Gawn as well). But I just feel Trac sticks out more with is explosiveness. He accumulates a lot of ball and how he uses his body to break games open is just incredible.

Anyway its unlikely but I just have a feeling he's closer then others think

Agree. He’ll poll more than Clarry, just because Umpires.

Lately the WAGS have, in general, been getting better style advice. Which is a shame; it was much better when it was much worse!

Agree. Trac showed last year that umps notice his breakout and burst clear style. He also loves a goal which gets the umps attention.

Yep. Trac has kicked 27 goals for the year, leads the league for score assists, and is the forward mid having the most impact on the scoreboard. I think he’s a big chance, had a better year than last year on stats and team has won many more games.

I chucked some cash on him a while back so hopefully I’m right!

Gill's sense of humour:

C.........................................Oliver

C.........................................Petracca

C.........................................Salem

C.........................................Spargo

This has been happening as far back as the 70s when Jack Hamilton would read the votes with a smirk on his dial.

Back then, the votes weren't read out sequentially round by round like they are today.  Instead, they were checked beforehand and stacked so a stage-managed close finish could be manufactured every year.

I reckon Bontempelli wins it, which might be a good omen because from memory when the Brownlow winner has come from a GF team, that team hasn't general won the game

Yep. I remember.

I'm not a big believer in good teams stealing votes off each other.

Simon Black did ok when accompanied by Voss, Aka and Nigel Lapappin.

Judd did ok when he was accompanied by cousins, Kerr and Cox

Hopefully Oliver wins but I'll be more pleased with a norm smith.

In 1954 Peter Box won the Brownlow and Footscray won the premiership.

In 1966 Ian Stewart won the Brownlow and St Kilda won the premiership

In 2001 Jason Akermanis won the Brownlow and Brisbane won the premiership

In 2002 Simon Black won the Brownlow and Brisbane won the premiership

In 2009 Gary Ablett Jr won the Brownlow and Geelong won the premiership

In 2017 Dustin Martin won the Brownlow and Richmond won the premiership

These are some of the Brownlow winners on the top of my head

Sometimes players win the brownlow and their team does not even appear in the finals or if they do they don't play in the Grand Final

I remember there being a few years where the brownlow winner was on the losing team, i think in 05,06 Cousins and Goodes won and played in losing teams, i might be wrong but i remember reading it was a bit of an omen

Loaded up on Trac to be winning after 5 and 10 rounds. And also Clarry to poll most in the last 8 rounds. Very juicy odds!

The Demons return to Casey Fields (aka the Field of Dreams) this Saturday to host the Saints in Round 2. If you’re feeling lucky, head down the Monash for some family-friendly footy—you might even walk away a winner. The first 5,000 adults through the gate will receive an entry into the $10,000 helicopter ball drop. With Casey’s infamous wind, what could possibly go wrong? Closest ball to the pin wins. So spread the word, get down there—and good luck!

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.
