Love this team!

93% of them did their part tonight

Sparrow, really lifted.

Jackson was immense.

Oliver is the key to grand final glory

Trac had one he’d be a bit [censored] off with. He will hit the prelim hard.

Langdon is just such a consistent asset to us.

Our defence is something to behold.

Lever’s positioning and strength in the air is blowing my mind these days. I though we paid too much for him. I thought he was generally a bit of a recruiting-mistake for his first three seasons. I am clearly a [censored] [censored].

But he, surrounded by May, Salem, Rivers and Petty are such a dependable unit  I love that gang.

Like everyone here, really excited about Bowey. What an insane situation he’s stepped into, and he’s holding his place. BUT, he needs to find the jets a LOT faster once he gets possession. Can look like a bit of a rabbit in the headlights at times, and I’ve noticed with somewhat concerning regularity that he’s getting caught while standing still. I get it, he’s a kid and these are standard lessons you learn. But this is finals, and it’s a baptism of fire!

Our Staffordshire Terriers, Viney & Harmes were doing what good staffys should. Great game from both of them.

Ben Brown would have been frustrated with his game tonight, but he’s doing plenty of the right things and it will click in two weeks. At the very least he’s putting forward a strong argument that eating like a hummingbird creates a better forward than eating like a pterodactyl.

Brayshaw, though allergic to the area between the goalposts, has admirable composure out there and can make the difficult look effortless at times.

Spargo and Kossie weren’t exactly starring, but holding down their roles well, whereas Fritsch is clearly our X factor. Just takes a while to warm up.

Gawny, as ever, our safest pair of hands (aside from Lever) and the best captain we’ve had since Tulip.

Who did I miss? Oh! Nibbler! Not bad! Ran hard, and was a reliable option across half forward

So yeah, T Mac. Not sure. He’s been a witch hat for two weeks running. Maybe he’s doing things I’m not noticing. I’m pretty stunned we’ve played so well these past two weeks with one guy effectively out of the game. But hey, it’s working 🤷🏻‍♂️

But I’m stoked. What a gift our team has been for those of us stuck in our houses with little else to do but dream of Australian Rules glory

Also I really like Chris Fagan. He just went out of his way in his post-match presser to praise the club.

Onya Fages!

Well summarised!

We quite possibly watched two Brownlow medallists running around tonight… last year’s and this year’s. 😉

Well the Delerium continues to flow from the mighty effort our boys are prepared to put in to help each other. Inaccurate but still won well, this team is the best that I can remember. Absolutely love this team.!!

Go Dee’s.!!

There are two type of demonalanders.

1. Those who were critical and questioned the value of Viney & Brayshaw at any point this year.

2. Those who didn’t.

I know where I stand.

Thoughts:

Razor Ray is a brilliant umpire. Loves us.

Our midfield bossed the Lions. Oliver, Viney, Trac, Jack Sparrow, Max, Harmes, etc.

Fritta marking ability is freakish.

At half time we could have been 10 goals up.

Bowey did some nice things in the final quarter.

Jacko's second quarter was freakish.

TMac looked a pace off but worked hard.

Kozzie's snap was incredible.

Oliver is easily the best midfielder to play for Melbourne since the sixties.

Rivers did some great defensive things after a shaky first quarter.

Not sure what happened to allow Cameron to kick five goals. Salo was very loose early. Smith tightened up on him.

ANB is such a player this season.

Max loved getting down and dirty tonight. Real leadership.

Talented, disciplined, multi-faceted, extremely fit, tight and together. It's the Dees of 2021.

I can remember watching Dustin Fletcher losing his two front teeth

From memory an opponent’s elbow hit his mouth as someone’s shoulder drove into the forearm and created the situation of the irresistible force meeting the movable objects

Mouthguards are like vaccines

They provide a high degree of protection but no absolute guarantee there cannot be injury

That said

I sincerely hope he was wearing a mouthguard

Haven't had a chance to post my thoughts yet as I've been to busy liking other people's comments!

Holy moly! Where on earth do you start with that one.

- I'm not sure what's changed in the last few weeks, but Oliver's kicking has now reached Yze levels of mastery. This kid is now officially the complete package and is quite possibly as good as any player we've ever had on our list.

- Gawn fought hard after the 'Big O' got the jump on him in the opening 10-15 minutes. From there, it was all Max.

- Brayshaw was sensational. Possibly one of the best game's he's ever played for the club. Speaking of wingers, Ed Langdon also played his best game since the bye. Looked to push hard forward on several occasions which makes him a far more dangerous player. The guy is our own personal energizer bunny, he just never stops running.

- Although the loss of McStay obviously didn't help the Lions, Both Petty and May did a great job in holding Daniher to his first goalless game of the season. Smith was decent in containing Cameron after his first quarter burst, but I think I still would prefer Hibberd in the side. Happy for the club to stick with Smith though. It's clear they see him as an important part of the side going forward.

- All of the youngsters were outstanding tonight. How about Jake Bowey in his fifth game? Yes he got caught a couple of times, but on other occasions he showed great commitment to the contest and using his speed to burst out of the pack. Sparrow has come on in leaps in bounds and looks like a player who will thrive in finals. Glad to see the coaches back him in after they started him as the sub several times earlier in the year. Jackson is such an important part of our structure. Brisbane's mini surge in the third coincided with this stint on the bench. Took an absolute beauty early in the game as if to say, "look out world, here I come!" Rivers was crucial during the opening stages of the last quarter. His opening five minutes were as important as anyone's one the ground.

More thoughts to come later...maybe. I'm still on Cloud 99 here.

Brayshaw was amazing and found that finals on a wing are very similar to what he likes - tough footy where he gets to show his ball winning ability.

Viney is pretty good for a rugby player, @demon3165 eh?

Fritsch is a bad [censored] assassin.

Oliver and Petracca are one two punch that will get us a flag (at some point).

The backline was excellent once again.

We are the best team in the league and that doesn't mean anything - but it does bring belief - and that is everything.

Go Dees.

Onya Mel Bourne,

NIce summary. I give you 93%

I liked Bowey's game and IMO you have omitted him in your appraisal.

I would have given them 96%

Again, Salem didn't play on Charlie Cameron.

The commentators got this blatantly wrong.

Great win our best players were brilliant in Clarry, Trac and Gawn. Fritsch was an ice man but what excited me were the lesser likes in Neal-Bullen and Sparrow. The only one that is out of form is T.Mac LIFT. One step away from the big dance can't wait.

I thought Sparrow came of age tonight. I thought he was great. Another hard nut who doesn't take a backwards step.

Another full pre season and hitting the weights will do Petty wonders. He belongs.

I left Joel Smith out of my passionate/fairly drunk appraisal of the team. Thought he was good! His pace came in handy against Charlie Cameron. Kept up with him in the pocket, and quashed a goal that could have been a dambuster for them.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
