Seems to be good at getting his hands on it at centre bounces, more than Jordan was anyway.

Just needs to build confidence with his decisions and disposal.

He's taken a bit of a confidence knock, think around the Brisbane game he looked brilliant. Then Goody took him out the game and we had that bad patch (not saying that's because Sparrow wasn't playing).

When we need some physicality he is one of the first guys i look to which is saying a lot considering some of the guys in this team.

Sparrow is strong in the contest and his handballs and kicking is strong.  Just needs to fix up his skill by foot and some decisions.  Was tracking ok and then got 4-5 weeks as sub with no matches at Casey.  Has taken time to readjust.
Sparrow or Jordon probably make way for Viney next week.

And Harmes, needs a job if he doesn't have one is lost.

I thought Sparrow was ok, gets his hands on it.

One more pre-season, he will probably be starting 22. His poor disposal is holding him back. He just has to be careful one of the others doesn't leapfrog him.

Sparrow is going along fine, difficult to play consistently when can’t get any Casey games, when not in ones.

Wasn’t a good disposal day today, but will be better next year.

Viney in for Sparrow.

Hard to know what job Sparrow has. But he was poor again today. Three free kicks against won't endear him to the selectors.

Has some pace, doesn't mind mixing it and has decent skills. Maybe just needs confidence?

Will make way for Viney next week.

It depends on what type of free kicks you can't just look at the stats. Hibbo have away a classic professional free kick today where they would have been off with overlap but slowed it down and gave us time to reset

Is his disposal poor or has his execution been poor? I've seen him slot a goal or two and done it well.

I like Sparrow, seems like an honest battler with no major weaknesses, developing nicely.

But I have no idea what his strengths are. He doesn't seem to have stand out attributes, rather be a generally good foot solider.

Maybe that's what he'll be: a reliable contributor over the journey who never truly owns his position, but does enough to hold his spot on the list as he makes his way to 150 games?

Have you been watching the standard of umpiring??

Free kicks against has to be one of the most irrelevant stats in assessing a players performance.

Don’t think we can complain about the Umpires today

More than aware of standard of umpiring, thanks Chief.

From memory a couple of them were for clumsy push in the backs which is a technique thing. Giving the ball to the opposition is never a good idea.

He was our worst player today. You cannot butcher the ball the way he does come finals

And viney does that every game.

Tom is very much a developing player who coaches are exposing to AFL football. Give him time and he will be very good. Doing his role otherwise he would be overlooked

Sparrow just needs a dose of self-confidence plus some reassurance from the coaches that he's got 'it', that he just needs to believe in himself.

The pros: Tough, hard at it, improving tackler and really runs hard.

But the cons are his kicking leaves a lot to be desired and he just doesn't have a whole lot of game sense. Plus he fumbles. You just can't fumble at AFL level.

He's going to be a really nice combination of size, power and endurance when he's at his physical peak over the next few years, whether he can improve his skills and game sense to be more than depth I'm not so sure.

Not sure you can play Sparrow and Viney in the same team. Both get the ball and do little with it but they play an important part. Just that you need a running player to leverage the skill.

Seems that Viney is better than Sparrow now so Sparrow needs to kick a few goals each match to grab a spot.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
