Just cool your jets and have a closer look. Viney wanted no part of it until Collins engaged in the wrestle.

Wrestling will get you a fine at worst.
Choking a player will get you sent straight to the tribunal.

Hence, the stupidity.

I think it will be a minimum 3, possibly 4.

Also, there was an horrific incident at the SCG a few years ago, different sport but similar area of the body.

Traumatic vertebral artery dissection is more common than just Phil Hughes, sadly. Very dangerous area.

Watching On The Couch and Nick Riewoldt just said it's a dirty act and should be given more then 1 week.

Garry Lyon said its certainly not a good look and potentially looking a some time.

Earlier on Jason Dunstall also said its not a good look as well..

There's a trend.

Going at his throat?? No just calling it as I see it. Personal? Nup just dont rate him as a very good player thats all. Nothing personal, probably a great bloke. Im commenting on his football, nothing more nothing less. U have your opinion I have mine and I agree with many that it is not a good look yesterday

Odd looking at the video that the Suns player has hold of Viney’s jumper and pulling him down, rather than what you expect of someone in that position. You expect them to be pushing Viney off them. Not sure what was going on there.

The GC player was pulling Viney in, the only way Viney could separate himself and gain some purchase was to instinctively put his arm down and accidentally push off the player on the grounds throat.  Additionally, from the angle I saw it from, it appeared Viney’s elbow was in contact with the other players shoulder, therefore most of the force and weight would have been on that part of the player and not his throat.

Case closed, I call for one of those dismissal thingy’s your Honour.

I feel like the hysteria will upgrade what would normally be simply seen as a 1-2 week suspension. I’m picturing possibly as high as 3 weeks, it really isn’t a good look and Jack has been seriously out of form lately, I feel like this is his attempt to get back to his tough guy look but it’s just plain filthy. I would be extremely angry if an opposition player did this to one of our guys and would be expecting minimum 2 weeks on the sidelines.

The coaches need to get into Jacks ear now, not only is his football atrocious, but these undisciplined acts do the club zero favours.  It’s also a really bad look for our Vice Captain to be doing these sorts of things.

Why? He deliberately pushed his elbow into the neck of an opponent. It was not accidental, it was deliberate and dangerous. If someone did that to Oliver you would be calling for their head.
It is a totally unnecessary act when we try to protect the head. The intention behind it means he will get at least a week. So good luck to him getting back into the side.

Agreed. It is an appalling intentional dog of an act and there is no place for it in the game. I will be surprised if he gets less than 3 and truthfully it will be deserved.

Not a good look. I get that the GC guy was not innocent in this, but Viney is the one who had his elbow on someone's throat and that's never easy to sell, and it shouldn't be, I'd be calling for blood if they did it to us. Probably 1-2 weeks I reckon, and deserved for stupidity, especially from our VC. And a total waste against a team we were destroying.

Some of you guys are nasty towards Jack. I dont understand the reasons people hassle him. Every good team needs a nasty little Jack. And ours is as tough as they come. Get off his case.

Yes that’s like a Martin Dangerfield Franklin rule where the players status dictates the non suspension.

Viney tackles Collins.  He grabs Viney by the jumper as they wrestle while Viney stupidly pushes his elbow into Collins throat whilst Collins holds him.  Collins our wrestles him and gets up.  Doesn’t scream or carry on.  Plays out the game.  No player impact.  It’s not a strangle or a flying elbow.    It’s a one week suspension for stupidity.  In my view.

I didn't like the look of this either, but I struggle with the AFL suspension system seemingly along with many on here - how do you get off/fined for deliberately elbowing someone in the head, and the outcome for "not a good look" (with no injury sustained) is potentially worse (according to pundits opinions) than an intentional head high striking act?

Oh come on. Forearm pushing someone down on the side of the face vs a cricket ball hitting you in the neck at 135km/hour

This is getting ridiculous

Moronic stuff from Jack.

He's meant to be a leader and does this shi*.

Not to mention we are destroying the opposition.

Needs to get weeks and have a look at himself.

I think he's done this out of pure frustration at himself.

Has had an ordinary few weeks and wanted to let it out.

Either way it's dumb, selfish and just an awful look.

The only saving grace is precedent but I don't care if they didn't get weeks. Give him a spell so he learns this is a gross act.

You think this act is acceptable?

Maybe before calling me 'average' you should go and watch the footage and ask yourself if this is something you should do on a footy field.

This kind of stuff happens all the time. "Acceptable" as in we should encourage it? Or "acceptable" as in it deserves a fine at worst?

I'd hate to see the outrage if one of our players actually did something malicious on the field. Supporters hate the club being seen as pushovers/spineless then are ready to hang a player the minute he shows a bit of mongrel. Back your players in FFS, the overreaction on this thread is appalling from so called "supporters".

Where? Who? When?

This act is extremely malicious - he was intending to do harm

This isn't 'mongrel' - it's dirty a act that is a bad look on him, the club and the game

I'm not 'backing' any player that would ever do this. It's weak.

Any previous example of this should have been punished with a week or more. Just a shame the tribunal are so inconsistent. .

I'm a proud supported but perhaps you should lift your standards, brother
