*am bemused by the adulation of Clarkson.

His time has passed.

He coached pretty damn well 2 weeks ago against a 13-3-1 side.

His list management ideas in order to hang onto top 8 relevance might suggest you’re onto something though.

Let's win the flag this year and hand the baton over to them

This has a beautiful symmetry about it.
heard on SEN on the way home tonight, Sam McClure opining that Clarkson would be at the blues next year.
I thought about Carlton jumping at shadows, sacking Ratts so not to miss out on Malthouse and before that, getting in the saviour denis pagan. Not to say ratts or Teague we’re / are the answer, but they have a history of being hopelessly reactive

Sore loser?

Dieter I do hope you take that as very tongue in cheek.

Done. Thanks...

The Teague train was all a hoax. This has been 3-4 years in the plaining.

Just a temporary stop gap, bandaid solution.

If so, a very, cunning plan

It's wonderful to see Collingwood and Hawthorn stuff up coaching appointments. Couldn't have happened to a better couple of clubs.

Just remember what we did to Norm Smith in 65 is way worse than what has happened at Hawthorn.

Get over it.

My  understanding is that contract ‘pay-outs’ are included in the soft cap.  If this is the case, how on earth can Hawthorn ‘afford’ to pay out Clarko for next year (big dollars presumably) while paying Mitchell as coach, and the rest of the support team.
I guess my understanding is incorrect.

easy... Mitchell is on assistant wages next year and then the $$$ kick in

Yeah, not sure Mitchell would be so happy with that.  Do the bosses job, you'd expect the bosses pay.

Even with COVID, Hawthorn are a wealthy club, they'll just cop the soft cap tax.

Sam Mitchell may have landed himself a poison chalice. He will be under so much scrutiny next season. Hawthorn and his coaching will picked over like carcasses  by vultures of every species.

Norm Smith curse now over. Hawthorn have taken the torch off us by burning and sacking the best coach of an era

Clarko Curse has a nice ring too it.

Succession planning seems to work best when the coach dictates it themselves like Paul Roos did.

It doesn't work so well when egotistical Presidents move on premiership coaches. Well done Eddie and Jeff.

No hope of coaching Pies my mail is he does not get on with Graham Wright.

I think their relationship is pretty well documented.

Sam Mitchell appears to have issues with established and high achieving incumbents that cramp his space. It was reported he was a major factor why Brownlow Medallist Matt Priddus retired prematurely at the end of 2017 after Mitchell’s arrival at WC. Could be a ruthless streak in his ambitions.

I have no skin in this game, but I would not be surprised in the least if Mitchell held the club over a barrel on this.

He's always been supremely sure of himself

AGreed. Smart person with top management. Why wouldn't he not leave any cash on the table after his treatment.  Or its just good business sense, given he'll only ever be unemployed if he chooses to be.

Nailed the key issue Wrecker

McGuire failed dismally at succession plannng - he didn't have one, and yet its a most important role of the leader/Chair.

Kennett equally negligent is this important apsect.

Ego can be such an anchor to good performance and legacy. It gets you every time

Kevin Sheedy is another that springs to mind. Leaving the Bomber in less than worthy circumstnaces that befitted a coach of his record. Mainly his doing though, forcing the Board to act.

The vitriol Caroline Wilson copped for her accurate reporting on this was woeful. She had to cop heaps but got it spot on. Just watched on you tube Ben Dixon rant calling on Wilson to put her hand up that she got it wrong. Dixon is a boys club peanut if he had an ounce of journalistic integrity he would resign for letting personal bias get in the way of the facts. Well done Caro.

not a 'journalist' tho is he; he's a 'commentator'

caroline is correct about 90% of the time - the one she got really wrong in the last two decades or so was north moving to gold coast and she was probably right there before james brayshaw managed to 'save' north melbourne

Hundreds of Hawks fans signing a petition to get rid of Jeff Kennett. Great to see them tearing themselves to pieces.

The Demons return to Casey Fields (aka the Field of Dreams) this Saturday to host the Saints in Round 2. If you’re feeling lucky, head down the Monash for some family-friendly footy—you might even walk away a winner. The first 5,000 adults through the gate will receive an entry into the $10,000 helicopter ball drop. With Casey’s infamous wind, what could possibly go wrong? Closest ball to the pin wins. So spread the word, get down there—and good luck!

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.
