Rd 22 vs Adelaide in Melbourne

ADMIN UPDATE: I have spoken with the club and have been assured that the Round 22 Adelaide match will be played in Melbourne at the MCG.

Confirmation that the match will be played in Melbourne

if so… that’s Qld, WA, Darwin, Geelong. [censored] me. this is 2020 all over again.

that'll mean some $$ for the club at any rate, and a crowd allowed at the game - the game at the g vs crows was definitely not going to be performed before a live audience

brutal schedule before finals in terms of travel but also an opportunity to galvanise; since the swans left sydney and worked together as a travelling and hubbed mob they've been one of the form teams of the competition

Wait what? Why?

This game is scheduled at the MCG where we can still play game. Why on earth is this being moved to [censored] Darwin?

I'm guessing Club's request to recover the $800k we lost when the Alice game was cancelled.

This has to be complete nonsense. They want to throw our season away ?

if we can't beat adelaide, we don't deserve to be playing the finals anyway. bring it on

If we do end up having crowds back for that round and this game is moved up there I’ll be ringing the club for a proportional refund on my tridents membership.

we’re an unassisted club that got smashed financially ( and worse than most others) in a year we should have creamed it. You do you and what you feel is right … but i’m looking to donate more.

If where going to play in the NT why would it not be in Alice Springs?

Watching games of footy in Darwin and Cairns is torture, with a top four Spot on the line not sure my heart will cope with this.

What a way to alienate the majority of your membership.

This game was probably going to have crowds at the G and now there’s talk of all finals being played in Perth if you believe the media.

GC- Perth- Darwin- Geelong. Great preparation for finals…

We must be near broke if we’ve initiated this.

Our form at the G has hardly been inspiring recently. Perhaps getting out of Melbourne and playing in warmer climes might do us some good and inject some energy back into us

Also the hub last year was credited as the catalyst for the game plan gelling. Could afford the opportunity to re-focus on roles and system. Steven May reckoned it helped the group bond as well

Metricon to Darwin is manageable. The 3rd leg of the trip might be difficult but again they'll be staying in a resort in WA so hardly a major imposition

We'll get some sun and have a chance to bond and re-focus so this could all work in our favor

Hi Wellsy. Yup, I get all that, I really do. I had no problem letting the club keep my $800 from last year have no intention of asking for anything back for the games we've been locked out of this year but they can't be doing this for games we could legitimately attend.

Sorry but that’s insanity. Are we trying to win a flag or have we given up?

Also if small crowds are allowed by then it’s a complete slap in the face to us paid up members who sink so much money into the club each year.
I would be ropeable if this is true!

I hope they haven't put money ahead of our season.. FFS we aren't mid range [censored] kickers this year!

Wouldn't be too concerned with playing in Darwin.

Not, likely to happen, more likely we will be in lockdown again.

This game in Darwin will be at Night, it'll be hot and slippery and it will stuff up our recovery for R23.

If they club have requested this, I've had a gutful. We've lost more than half a years worth of home games to covid and now another game is going.. Can't see this hurting us at all ?

Perth game backing into a Darwin game not ideal.  Probably need to win both for a top 4 spot.

You’d just hope there isn’t any stupid ‘fly in fly out’ rules for either game - thats what would take it from being challenging to near-impossible.

I'm not keen on the travel aspect either and would prefer not to play in Darwin at all. The only reason to do so is financial

But time away gives the group a chance to bond and perhaps re-energise and re-find some form away from Melbourne
