Very odd feeling after the game.

Fumbled everywhere tonight, hawks didn’t seem to struggle as much.

Some inaccurate kicking tonight was costly.

as someone else said, Pickett’s set shots are confusing. Should just play on every time aha

I always cringe when I see odds of $9.50 for Hawks to win and people on here talking about percentage and a “10 goal victory being a pass mark”. Clearly not enough people follow this team forensically. I wish I didn’t.

The two points may prove to be very handy, but this team is taking months off our lives every time they serve this porridge up.

100%

How any-one gets on here and predicts percentage boosters for any game is beyond me.

I'm sorry but when are people going to start realising that I speak the truth! This was a bloody disgrace and top 4 is out of the question now. Most likely playing richmond round 1. Good job guys!

You always get on and say this garbage every time we lose yet you go missing when we win or you say hey i was wrong. We know your a troll and we really dont care what you post.

How many frees did the umpires pay to Hawthorn inside forward 50? Jesus wept. It was unwatchable.

They had at least four goals direct from free kicks.

*(edit: Just to clarify, I wouldn't say we drew because of the umps, I don't want to become an essendon fan, but it remains a frustrating fact nonetheless.)

Yze has a bit of work to do with the midfield. We are just getting beaten in the centre

Oliver gets the ball a lot but OMG can he please think about what he does when he kicks it - blind bombing into the F 50 is just really dumb football

Never seen May play a worse game. Needs to get his head right.

Jackson, T Mac and Brown gave us SFA up front. We were crying out for some marks from our 58 inside 50s

You'd probably have to just about say May is a bit overrated wouldn't you? Can play great games and then serve up absolute stinkers, which is not what you expect from a bloke approaching 30. Can get very fumbly under pressure too.

Viney is a tagger nothing more

I’m disappointed but pleased Sportsbet paid out my line bet on Hawthorn +42.5 points

The MFC are the best bet going when they go into a game as hot favourites

I still struggle to see how we are top of ladder - this team just takes a holiday when they really should bury teams

Hard to feel confident they can perform when it really matters - finals

I've been doing those line bets for weeks. Normally get about 1.90 on the opposition with a line of around 30 or 40.

We can't beat anyone by five goals.

Easy money

All of you people talking about top 4 and top 2. I've proven you wrong time and time again! this is now proof. We are now unlikely to make the top 4. You are torturing yourselves by continuing to talk about top 2 and top 4 and have NO RESPECT for just how little you can trust this club.

SHAME ON EVERYONE WHO SAID I WAS NEGATIVE JUST FOR STATING I BELIEVED WE WOULD FINISH 5TH. Since my comment,  there has been numerous articles stating how we are at risk of losing that spot. And guess what, MORE ARE COMING!

LESSON: NEVER EVER doubt my knowledge of this football team.

The only thing worse than watching us play like trash, is having to come on here and read your trash.
You are a miserable troll.

We are not good being favourites.
Hawks game plan of intense tackling and scrubby kicks fwd at any opportunity with nothing to lose might be the best way to play against Melb. And kick straight. Particularly when you know Melb w'ont lkick straight and can't put the foot down so always leave the door open.

Certainly feels like a lose, but handy 2 pts for the ladder - my pride has been whacked, I so hate Hawthorn.

Well, call me Nostradumbass. I called a ten goal victory and at the end of the first quarter, I was very confident that would come to pass. Apparently and regrettably, so did the players.

Now it's time for me to transition into my Big Poppa Pump, Scott Steiner, hate filled heel promo....

What I wrote in the 'What I will do if we lose to Hawthorn' thread will mostly hold true. I have been shaking my head. I'm now here to excoriate the performance, meditate and then look forward to next week. Only difference is that we have drawn. But I have to excoriate that.

Like really? Top spot on the line and us coming off a potentially powerful win on the road vs. a team looking forward to the end of the year and doing little to excite all year. And that is served up?

We have time left. We retained top spot. Let's work with what we've got rather than what we preferred we had. But if we want to win in September, the pumpkins need to stay in the locker and not on our player's heads as they take the field.

Where was the clean ball handling? Anything below our knees was absolutely putrid. No one touch pick ups. Plenty of squirty handballs going nowhere when moving out of clearances. Non existent structure at centre bounces. And when we were running and carrying, we constantly seemed to be handballing or kicking to stationary options.

McDonald was bloody poor tonight. He did get an injury, but easily was the worst game of his for the year. Dogga as well was average. Jack is a terrier, but his disposal has been bloody appalling since he's been back.

I wonder if we need a small lockdown defender in the back 50. Some might say Hibbo, but I view him as not the type of bloke who has the toe to keep with a crumber. Nev seems to have had the game pass him by, so I've not a clue as to what we'll do.

I didn't mind BB's game. He kept presenting, finally got a sausage and AGAIN got his leads cut off. It's just a shame that his midfield seem to think that the Mark Neeld game plan of 'bomb it onto Mitch Clark's head' seems to have been psychically hard wired into some's head. *cough* Clarry and Tracc *cough* Remember fellas. Just because it feels satisfying to cathartically kick the leather off the ball from a centre bounce clearance, it doesn't mean it will bring about satisfying results.

It's ironic that Brent Croswell played his last few seasons of football with us. Because we emulate his style of play this year: fantastic on the bigger stages, but disinterested when we are off Broadway. After tonight's game, we are lucky to be playing off Broadmeadows.

Gold Coast are playing bloody good footy at the minute. We are in NO position to mark this in the win column. A complete mindset change is required if we are to win that one. Plain and simple.

Worst of all is that the 'Is Goody the right guy?' thread continues to cling on like a limpet up a whale's arze. If Goody tries to explain that away, he should give himself an uppercut in front of the journos. It will at least make the spectacle entertaining rather than the rage inducing spin session it would be.

Hey @Gunna’s why the vomit emoji on this post?…

I counted at least ten other posts expressing the same sentiments but not one of them copped a vomit emoji from you. No biggie, just curious.

We did come up against a team that 2 weeks ago did something we couldn't do, beat the giants & next week we come up against the team that did it last week.

Our attitude is just poor at times.

Goal kicking was shocking tonight, Brown, Brayshaw, Kozz, T-mac, fritta, Dogga.

We had 8 more marks inside 50 so it definitely isn't connection, its conversion.

Really have to work on Viney's role.

He's not the midfielder who should be streaming forward and delivering inside 50, because he consistently misses targets.

So why does it keep happening?

If that was the criteria we don't have any midfielders.

The HTB on Petty was absolutely disgraceful

I have been watching deplorable games from the MFC for over 50 years. Sadly I am used to it.

Sorry Dr.D, forgot it’s all about you

You mental pigmy

Does anyone know the website that does age and experience comparisons for each game?

We were slow and not interested enough in the chase. Need some serious sports psych! Hard to listen to that commentary barracking for Hawks all game. Hard to watch the umps gift them so many goals. Just a shocker of a night to add to this ****ful week.

Late in the game lever had an opportunity coming out of defence to keep the ball moving with a short pass to one of two players. He instead held the ball up and kicked to a pack and they won the ground balls and they kicked the leveller. It was very stubborn and defensive. There was one minute thirty to go and he froze. We used the ball better early but at some point we only had eyes for the defensive pack kick that rarely worked. We put the cue in the rack in the second and weren’t able to get going again. Very arrogant. The lesson is not being learnt. Doesn’t bode well. Mental fragility in front of goals has killed us and will continue to. Will likely be our undoing. So hard to watch. The adjudication of high contact that came into the game in the third seemed to be missing in the first half too.

You called me a troll when I said we'd finish 5th because you guys couldn't fathom the idea that we could finish 5th. I had done my research and I looked at all the teams and who they were playing and looked at our form and came up with 5th. So I've now proven that my prediction is the most accurate because you guys couldn't even stomach the idea that coming 5th was within the realms of possibility.

Agree.

I cannot express my contempt strongly enough for that.  Over 20 points up and put the cue in the rack.  Ball watched. Outworked.  Over-using. Outcoached. Poor attention to structures.  Goodness, we snuck away with 2 points.

feels in every way like a loss.

No he is resigned to the fact that we are mentally weak as a club, have been for 50 odd years.  We should be undefeated, the only reason We aren't is because we thing we have acheived something, guess what we are the worst performed club for 50 years.

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.
