All playing consistent roles for the team. He was essentially arguing we’ve drafted as well as anyone - particularly in 17 and 18 when we didn’t have early picks. 

One third of the team in 3 drafts is exceptional.

 

Geelong built a dynasty on three drafts.  Hopefully this sets us up for many years.

Fair about the 2016 draft, though maybe a bit stiff on Hannan. But the 2016 trade period was pretty fruitful for us with the experience of Lewis helping get us to where we are, and an AA back man in Hibberd who is still going strongly.

I hardly ever bet but I do keep an eye out for enticing odds.  I got LJ at $26 at the start of the year when Rowell was at some stupid short price and it was daylight to the next batch. Early payout @ $7.50 now - I'm going to hang in.  I think Luke's best is yet to come.

Should have eaten my own Pollyanna dog food and gone LJ into Demon's flag at something like $600 if it was allowed ...

We all know about the nightmares of the 2000's but the early 2010's weren't any better. For example, 2011 we drafted 7 players across the national and rookie draft and those 7 players combined for a total of... 47 senior games. Amazing.

The upswing really began in 2013 when we picked up Salem, Hunt and Harmes in the same draft, though even 2015 is iffy, with Oliver the only one excelling. Jury still well and truly out on Weideman obviously.

Yeah our trading has been quite good, was just focusing on the drafting there.

To be fair, if every draft nets us an Oliver and literally nothing but trash in every other round, you would take it and run.

Oliver is actually a superstar. You only get those once in a blue moon.

Good to see Im not alone in thinking this young bloke will be a great player. Already doing very well and so young.

   I'm surprised that Dogga is so short in the betting and the extent of the praise for him  .He is obviously athletic but to  date has generally had wooden hands .Hogan would clunk marks all day long even early in his career but Luke either drops them or takes them with 2 bites .If his marking comes good he will be a weapon but at the moment he is fairly limited.

I always assumed it was because with the hair and his playing style it looks like an enthusiastic floppy-eared Beagle puppy has been allowed on the field.

He's a very tough one to judge for Rising Star chances because of his versatility.  His only outstanding areas stats-wise are hitouts where he has no rivals at all, contested marks where he is in the very top group, and slightly surprisingly contested possessions where he is right up there with inside mids like Tom Green.

Thing is, he is also 'good' in every other category: possessions, tackles, disposal efficiency, clearances, one percenters, score involvements and even tackles inside 50. For all these things the lists go 'specialists in the role' and then there is Luke Jackson being 'best of the non-specialists'.

He is the ONLY Rising Star ruckman worth mentioning, and he is also the most complete and well-rounded footballer in the entire Rising Star cohort. It's remarkable.

Heh, I've actually talked myself into believing in his chances.

Base his work on his ruck skills and around the ground stuff, not his one little weakness that can be easily fixed.

Exactly 'dazzle'...his ruck craft, 2nd efforts, tackling, vision to open out play with handball, pick good options are exceptional.

midfield/ruck. 0.6 goals as a forward. Jordon is a little bit run of the mill to me. But he can find the ball I give him that.

Yeah agree but he just doesn't have any power. No power in his tackles or ability to break from stoppages or acceleration. I think he really needs to work on that going into next year.  The power in his first few steps. 

That's why I have Rivers ahead of him.

This is a classic example of the confusing nature of the Rising Star Award.  It's always difficult to get a clear answer on the criteria for how it's awarded or the degree to which the judges look at:
a) the performances they've had over the course of the year.
b) the potential that player exhibits, based on their performances that year.

There has always been an ambiguity in the Rising Star award which has seen players like Lewis Taylor, who had a fine 2014, beating Marcus Bontempelli, who showed clear signs of the player he was going to be in the second half of that year.  River and Jordon have both had greater and more consistent output that Jackson this year but, from what we have seen, most would agree Jackson has the greater potential to be a 'star' in the future.

This keeps the award wide open and probably suggests it's between Jackson, Cox and Green.

Amusing, but that's not how sports betting works. The odds don't change for the person who makes the wager once that wager is placed. Those odds remain fixed for that bet. Certainly, odds can lengthen and shorten over time but only for future bets.

Nat saying he wins it or should be favorite over Jacko but one thing to consider with Jordon is his output v's game time.  Most weeks hes in the lowest few of time on ground and is still producing great numbers.

Last 2 weeks

R15 - TOG = 62% - 21 Disp 

R13 - TOG = 57% - 23 Disp -

 

 

The really impressive thing is, i've spoken to people involved at AFL land, and they all said about Jackson that he had incredible talent, but he'd take time, i don't think even the MFC expected this sort of output so early, and that's scary.

Jackson certainly looks the goods but Jordon is primed to become a major contributor to a great demon dynasty. He's got loads of upside and is a massive asset to an already tremendous midfield. Cool head and above average skill set.

It depends what you see him as, I assume you see him as a key forward considering the Hogan comparison? He is a second year kid who holds his own in the ruck (could argue we look better at stoppage when in there) and is 6th in the comp for forcing turnovers (everyone else in the top 5 is a small forward). He is a freak and when not if the marking comes the sky is the limit. 

Jordon has had an amazing year but if I was choosing the nominations in a draft its clearly LJ in my book.

Always find it so interesting how people view games so differently. A 19yr old playing significant ruck & game time is quite extraordinary..pretty sure Hogan missed his first season with stress fractures of the back & not sure he reached the lofty heights you’re talking about. Jackson is extraordinarily talented for one so young!

He is so good below his knees it more than makes up for his marking ability which I have no doubt will come.
