I gotta say that from 5-1 they just more did good things but were still sloppy. Max did enough but cost us goals with dropped marks, bad taps, and being painfully slow at the end.

Oliver should get the 10 coaches votes tonight.

I think he would be the first to admit he had an off night, he did some very uncharacteristic mistakes.

I must have watched a different game. It was his best game for weeks. 5 contested marks. Taps very good

A couple of mistakes doesn't cancel out a player's influence. 20 possessions, 10 marks and a goal.

I cannot fathom giving votes to Gawn. He was up against one of the worst Ruckman in the league today. His game was all stats no product and to top it off, he made 2-3 mistakes that led directly to goals for the crows. Not good enough for the votes.

The first point can sometimes be overcome by a team mate running past for an easy handball receive. It did happen once or twice tonight.

The second - he took 10 and dropped 2.

If you are talking about first option then I'd be lining up Petracca, Harmes and most of the rest of the team before Max.

Can't say that I've noticed the spoiling of team mates as a significant problem.  As probably the best contested mark in the game maybe they should be providing coverage for him so he doesn't get bashed from pillar to post every game, or get out of his way.

The final one was a disgraceful flat footed effort by both Hibberd (Rowe's man) and Oliver.  As pointed out on the commentary there was nothing wrong with the tap.  It went exactly where it was supposed to.  Hibberd was supposed to check Rowe - he didn't; and Oliver didn't move (he should have).  The whole clearance thing is an inexact science with multiple variables.  Being on the move is one of the non-negotiables.

So my point stands - Max's errors did not contribute any more substantially to the loss than most of the others that were made tonight.

The final one was on Hibberd IMO, he got in Oliver’s way

A bit harsh on Gawn. Reality is we only had 2 good players. Oliver had a blinder and Petracca was good even though his fumble cost us the game. The rest you could have given votes to anybody no one was really worthy of votes. To only go down by a point and it should have at least been a draw due to that home town deliberate decision not being paid was a good effort.

Have a look at the Crows Coach presser. You might form a different view. Yet you include Petracca who made many more errors than Gawn, and Jackson because of?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
