I think Rivers and Hunt were the unheralded stars of todays win. Both make a few mistakes at times but they both cover a heap of ground to fill the gaps that allow the talls to drop back and outnumber.

If generating a spare behind the ball was easy then every team would do it.

Rivers had a number of crucial intercepts and Hunt made a great spoil on McKay that led to a goal in the 3rd to consolidate the break.

Probably the same thing goes for ANB and Spargo at the other end. They also cover a heap of ground. Spargo's crucial quick hands were delightful and ANB put in another great shift of running.

We were too tall and short up forward when the ideal set up is more mid sized players (Jackson and a resting mid for me), but the extra small in Chandler did a nice job making sure the pressure lifted in the 3rd.

Nice return to form for Fritsch as well. A couple of bullet passes and if he was umpired the same way Harry McKay is he could've kicked 5.

I love Ed Langdon. It needed to be said. 

Anyone else notice Trac and Hibbo annoyed at those covering Chandler in milk before the song? Trac even helps wash it out of his hair

We won the last 2 games last year. So we have won 11 !

Our defence is immense as both a nullifier and an attacking weapon. I saw enough to know the forward mix wont work. Great to watch our waves of defensive run and run down tackles all the way to the final siren. Still a 9-0 work in progress but we just continue to win with system and effort. Well played number 3, number 8 and number 25.

System - it’s fully bought in, sometimes there are some millionaires but their teammates are hard on themselves and they correct it.

Brayshaw’s IQ - he was everywhere, if he could stop being lazy in execution he would have been clear BOG.

Backline strong with Rivers setting himself apart from most kids in the AFL.

Fritsch better around the ground and defensively. He probably got shown some vision and responded well. HFF is the toughest position in the game.

Spargo, ANB, Kosi - our most important forwards with TMac - they are the reason we can play like this and execute this system.

Bad

Entries into forward line again...

Leading patterns in forward line - they have not played much footy and it shows. They need time together and TMac showed he can play well up the ground as well as deep so we have an opportunity to create a forward line that is dangerous in different ways. They just need time.

Meh

Umpiring is tough as it is with the rule changes - they are doing fine - they are consistently inconsistent so quit whingeing.

C7 commentary - we have these Neanderthals commentate because the nuff nuff fan base demands ‘credentials’ and a rooster in between the legs of those who put their hand up to call the game.

Great point. They worked so hard. And that work by them an others means teams can't just switch to break us down and get an easy transition (compare our work rate to our loss against the dogs last year - chalk and cheese)

There was one play where Rivers busted a gut to cover the outlet. We ended up winning it back and going back inside 50. Fair play to bartel he pointed the work rate out (hunt might also have been involved?)

I absolutely loved Olver's defensive work rate and defensive running today too. I thought that part of his game was critical in the first half. That run down of cripps was something he just wanted doing until this year. First class work rate from Clarry today.

I’m not sure how others read his game but I thought Harmes backed up last weeks good performance with another solid game. Still did a couple of “Harmes things” but he tackled and was solid at the contest. For a bloke that is maligned by some of the fans I feel like he’s proving a point that he can play a role. 

I gotta also say, Spargo is the guy that just gives us a goal when we need it. It was really good play from Chandler but yet again Spargo bobs up at the right time. When he kicked that first goal of the last I breathed easy.

Was at the game. Mate saw Trac spew his guts out before the game started. Not sure if nerves or something else.

midfield definitely need to lift - too predictable at stoppages and we never seem to get a clean clearance. The midfield is great defensively but cannot hurt teams enough with poor kicking inside 50 - today field kicking was supposedly pretty efficient. We also don’t use the corridor enough - kicking it wide is boring and predictable.

Caboult apparently isn't 100% right and obviously there was a lot of team stuff but I thought Petty held his own in a number of contests too. 

The thing about Petty from what I've seen with him at VFL is that the upside in terms of ball use and intercept marking is really strong. 

He has work to do on spoiling when out of position, backing himself to be assertive to impact contests and making sure he's solid over the ball under pressure but all that stuff is easier than doing the rare things. It might be a bumpy ride as it is for any key defender but if he keeps improving the basics I'm excited to see the upside.

Agree we were boring today but we had 3 big forward in and it was wet. The plan seemed to not give Carlton an inch because they can take a mile. Personally I don't mind that. Why give them a chance?

Disagree that we don't get clean clearances. ANB, Petracca, Jordon, Oliver x 3 all got some brilliant centre breaks. About the only one that really worked out was the Oliver mongrel kick to ANB that landed on his chest, we certainly have to do better there. But overall I thought from the centre square at least we ended up winning 12-11 and had the best quality of clearances as well. It wasn't perfect but it was a big bounce back from last week.
