In a rare case of common sense, it looks like the AFL will return to Thursday night announcement of teams (story on their website) which I expect will be met with widespread approval among Demonland posters.

They surveyed 13,313 fans and 94.5% voted for a return to a long-standing tradition in our game.

Good to see the AFL is at least in touch with 5.5% of fans.

It's only minor but that is a nice bit of (rare) common sense from the AFL.

And agree on the above re music at the ground. I think a survey on that would yield very similar results. But I assume that may be on the home club as much as it is on the AFL?

Gerard Whateley predicted a couple of weeks this would happen by Round 8. The sooner the better.

This one I disagree with. I find I'm not ready on a Thursday night for a game of football.

couldn't find a link.  does this apply from this week?

I don't think it's been officially decided. Rather, someone in the media has found out the results of the survey and assumed (wisely? unwisely?) that the AFL would respond to the 95%.

Have a look under the "news" drop-down menu.  It's in the "latest news" category.

I and three of my friends just completed the survey, but only 2 of us voted yes for Thursday night team announcements.

Based on that, does the percentage go up or down?

More information please. Was your mass increasing or decreasing?

Here’s the link, no confirmation but it does point to it likely happening.

Definitely agree with this for a number of reasons; firstly this gives us a much clearer picture to tip with, secondly this gives the media something to really discuss, finally it’s more engagement for the fans through the week. Glad they’ve come to their senses on this, I don’t think the coaches will be pleased though.

Would like to see all teams posted 2 days before games.

Being a team that usually gets the Sunday slots, we are most of the time, waiting on the eve of the game to know the selections. This leaves hardly any time to discuss, analyse and criticise. Instead, we spend too much time hypothesising.

Thursday games post Tuesday 6.30 pm, Friday games could post Wednesday 6.30pm, may be problematic, though the Sunday team would know who it is selecting on the Friday night.

I hope they make logical decisions about team postings and adjust with more than the Thursday night announcements.

Addit, they propose that Sunday teams be announced on Friday, Thursday would be squad posts.

Would love, more time to hear the social network brain trust's thoughts on match ups, wrong selections, possible rearrangements, the game plan, and the general expectations of the team.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
