Just felt compelled to put something down on this but the utter contempt for us from certain media types is really insulting. I know we have been awful, truly awful in the past and i get the whole trust thing, i think its totally fair enough, we have failed many test before and i get that it stays with people but my goodness, some just cannot bring it upon themselves to pay is any praise without a but on theĀ end.

The 2 main offenders are the 2 people who, have been burnt by the demons theĀ most in theĀ past, these so called experts tipped Melbourne to win flags in 2019 and were made to look silly, are David King and Kane Cornes.

I know it should not worry me but it really aggravates me that these 2 in particular cannot give any unconditional praise.

Firstly Cornes says we were really good but was critical of Kozzie and teh pointing to theĀ scoreboard incident.. of all the things we did well, that was his main take, its unbelievable. I for one loved the aggression and the arrogance of it, we have been passive for the best part of 10 years, we show some spunk, some swagger and some mongrel and the criticism still comes, they ask us to standĀ for something and then are critical when we do.

Ā

And David King cannot bring himself to give praise, last night, if you can watch the first crack on Fox, his contempt for us was embarrassing, he could not just compliment our game without a rider, his thing was that Richmond will remember this and that Kozzie to extract the free kick dipped his shoulder and was alluding that it was illegal and not on, it was laughable, it was embarrassing for King, and it stood out like the dogs proverbials that he hates this club..Ā

I hope we keep going, these guys will run out of things to be negative about eventually, or maybe not but its just so boring. At the start of the year, every media tool said Melbourne was the team under the greatest amount of pressure, we come out and beat 6 sides, including the premier and theĀ grand finalist and still they find a way to be critical.

Ā

Just a vent. Feel better now,Ā

Ā

King and Cornes are the North Melbourne of the footyĀ media, they’reĀ trotted out in the gigs no one else wanted.Ā

Let then slag us off, we don’t want everyone blowing smoke up our arses. Ā We need to keep being challenged.

One week at a time.......winners are grinners.......nothing these clowns say can a) take back the 4 points, b) stop the quiet spring in the step each Monday morning after a win..... Go Dees - onwards to the next challenge!!!!!

How old is Kozzie?

How many games has he played?

How many on a BIG stage?

To have a crack at the bloke for such a small incident speaks volumes about them and not Kozzie.

The phrase "get a life" aptly fits for these so called commentators likeĀ never before.

I'm just getting a bit jack of the phrase "are Melbourne the real deal?"

Also find it amusing that Fox Footy has it's power rankings and dispite us sitting 2 on the ladder most of the season, their ranking still only puts us in 4th or 5th.

My only real critisim of the way that we have been playing is that while we've been winning, we don't seem to have quite fully clicked and got our system together and should be winning games more easily at times, so just watch out once we do.

100% agree, im also sick of media having a go at the supporters, there job is to go teh team, talk about the team and what is good and bad, but it seems like theĀ narrative is to take theĀ mick out of us as the firstĀ point of response.

Ā

Happy to stay under the radar as such for as long as possible. Teams have been coming at us hard, which hasn’t worked so they’ll need to come up with something else but the longer we’re out of the media spotlight at 6-0 the better.

Ā

The media is 100% inconsequential to our performances, yesterday, today and tomorrow.

I for one am happy we are still not being rated as highly as the Dogs, although we have beaten better side than they have.

The less pressure is on us to perform by the clowns who call themselves footy experts, the better.

We will eventually drop a game we should win, just like we have won a game not many expected us to win, and the criticism will come thick and fast. That is how fickle the footy media is. Just as they still rateĀ  Richmond a chance to win the flag, and are all certain they'll make the top 4. It takes a long time for these so called experts to change their tune for better or worse.Ā Ā

"Before others love you, you need to love yourself"

The MFC is in a great space with itself...Ā

All the rest if Fugazi, and it's fugazi for a point.Ā

What gets people talking? It is commentary in the media that is divisive and deliberately adversarial.

I'm not talking left and right politics here of course, I'm talking about something far more emotional to people..it's football!

Anyway - anyone's opinion in the media is about as useful as the bloke you vaguely know 3 doors down, who kind of [censored] you because he has a Tigers flag in the window.

They will always focusĀ onĀ negatives and try and find the one thing that irks them rather than look at all the good stuff.

What I was ropeable about , was the Herald sun calling Nathan Jones a ā€œperennial loserā€

Modern day journosĀ have a total lack of respect and feel for the game.

I think we need to just enjoy the ride; haters gonna hate and frankly who cares.Ā  Snow gags, pretenders, April Premiers, underachievers, draftcheaters...big deal; the results speak for themselves 6-0.Ā  Sooner or later you either win the premiership or you don't; that is how we win respect!!

100% only winning the Premiership will change the perception of the club...Geelong were the handbaggers until their dominant era and we never hear about 9thmond for the Tigers anymore either

King went on about that Richmond had more inside 50 then Melbourne. He most not have watched the game as a lot of the inside 50 went straight to a Melbourne player standing by himself.

Cornes got one thing right . Discussion turned toĀ theĀ  Carlton lions gameĀ  but Cornes brushed the Blues aside referring to them asĀ irrelevant. Only talked about the lions.

Fair enough.

Ā

We could win this year's premiership by 12 goals against Port Adelaide or the Bulldogs in some frozen tundra near Bullamakankee having flown in there 2 hours before the game and been forced to parachute out of the bi plane they sent us there in having just endured a month of lockdown because a dopey Bombers player went to a Covid hotspot the week before we play them and this would be the narrative from some media clowns:

They haven't beaten anyone yet

Port or Bulldogs were undermanned

We could then win another 3 flags in 10 years and still not be trusted, and every team we beat will have been undermanned or travelled too far or had too-sugary tea that morning or some other povvo excuse.

I only pay attention to Gleeson et al - the Age Footy Podcast is reasonably balanced. Be interesting to see on the couch tonight.

Reckon we're being a bit sensitive here. This is what else King said.

Ā

"I’ve been waiting for Melbourne. I’ve been a critic of Melbourne because too often they’ve taken you on a journey and then they’ve let you down,ā€ King toldĀ SEN’s Whateley.

ā€œThe Melbourne fans are still apprehensive about whether it’ll be there at the end of the year, but all we can talk about is now.

ā€œTo see Max Gawn do what he is doing … I’d love to be captained by Max Gawn. To see Christian Petracca continue on with his brilliance, to see Christian Salem now come with him, Clayton Oliver’s always been Clayton Oliver, he’s an 8/10 player every week.

ā€œThe rest of them now are appreciating their pecking order and it doesn’t matter where you are, you have still got an important function.

ā€œThe penny seems to have dropped at Melbourne and I know we’re probably thinking ā€˜we said this last week’, but you’ve still got to see it against the best.ā€

I feel like you're working too hard to find fault. King's analysis of our game was largely positive. I actually quite like his analysis (generally) because he usually looks at both sides of the coin. You can't just mindlessly point out the positives. We were great but he rightly pointed out we over used the footy a fact that's been noted in post match interviews. It was a fantastic game for the club and it was so exciting on the night but you can't deny Richmond's goal kicking let us off the hook time and time again.

And while we wouldn't like it, under the current rules if Mansell had been concussed then Pickett would have gotten suspended because he elected to bump and he clearly made contact with his head. I don't think the action was 'wrong' he was just trying to make space but that's not important to the MRO.Ā

As for the after goal shenanigans, I personally prefer to win with class but when you've got a 6 goal break in the reining premiers I think it's ok to let them know they're not untouchable. I liked Goody putting his arm around Kozzie and reminding him what's important though.Ā

I accept this deal.

We need to win more than one big game to gain any ā€œRespectā€

The Media were burnt by Melbourne in 2019

I don’t care what they say, as long as we keep playing the current style.Ā
We will lose game(s) this year. Every team does. Just not in SeptemberĀ

Im not at all, our overuse of theĀ footy won theĀ game, it broke Richmonds game plan up. Im not looking for faults, i understand there is going to be analysis, im critical of the double standards applied to us.

Also i like to win with class as well, but its a heated game, its adrenalin, a young fella is worked up.. there is absolutely no need to make it an issue about it, things happen as you say, the coach addressed it, move on.

Ā

Have also noticed that the AFL app gives us nothing but crumbs in termsĀ of news coverage. Though Cornes did just utter (along with Mitch Clearly) that Petracca could likely win a Brownlow AND a Norm Smith this year. Not exactly faint praise.Ā

  • PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

With both sides precariously positioned ahead of the run home to the finals, only one team involved in Sunday’s clash at the Adelaide Oval between the Power and the Demons will remain a contender when it’s over.Ā  On current form, that one team has to be Melbourne which narrowly missed out on defeating the competition’s power house Collingwood on King's Birthday and also recently overpowered both 2024 Grand Finalists. Conversely, Port Adelaide snapped out of a four-game losing streak with a win against the Giants in Canberra. Although they will be rejuvenated following that victory, their performances during that run of losses were sub par and resulted in some embarrassing blow out defeats.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fieryĀ interaction between Max Gawn and Steven MayĀ at the end of the gameĀ was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
