I think the most painful part of the St Kilda game was in the last quarter seeing some body language and matching behaviour from a couple of the Saints' young guys.  Max King very visibly just decided it wasn't worth the effort to put on a few steps worth of pressure when Richmond were breaking from a contest inside forward 50.  It clearly wasn't just laziness; it came with a visible sigh of disappointment and futility.  To see that from a player who kicked 5.2 and added two goal assists just the week before is a real worry.

We all know and we have all felt the way a few massive hammerings can affect a team and especially the promising young players in that team.

Very clearly the Saints have fallen apart once their spirit is broken on two occasions already this season.  There is danger of that compounding horribly given they came into the season with high hopes and promises.

his twin does it too

they're naturally talented sportsmen who are used to starring with ease - both have a lot of work to do

i think that's one of the key advantages jackson has over them; representing oztraya at underage level basketball has him knowing that there's people out there who are more talented and harder working than he is, and from what we've seen so far his 'desire to compete' is high

So beating those four proves we are premiership material does it?

OD you made a statement saying basically that the wins we have had PROVE we are a middle ranked side. I merely said it was not proof

So what are after those 4 wins?

See that Richmond humbled the Saints has got me thinking, we have ticked the most important boxes so far this year (4 wins, no losses). But like any team there needs to be constant development and improvement, so the next thing we need to do is actually beat a team well. We should have done it against the Saints, only our poor kicking prevented it from being a 50+ point hiding, but that's ultimately not good enough. While I will be happy with anything that's in the win column, I would also hope that our squad is driving themselves to be better than "just getting the win".

Saints could be on track for a 2019-like season that we had, Brisbane as well. If so that's two finals spots opened up, the only thing that might keep the cats going is their massive home ground advantage.

The only thing I can prove is that we are currently 2nd on the ladder

Where we end up is speculation. I hope top 4.

I saw this on the Brad Hill thread on Bigfooty and just had to post it.

This is possibly one of the worst individual efforts I have ever seen, and it's a very good example of why the Saints loss to Richmond means nothing in the context of the ANZAC Eve game. No one in a Melbourne jumper is going to do this next week, that's for damn sure.

A rare occasion i am hoping the Pies win.  One of my late dad's friends is on the way out at 99.

One of few WWII vets remaining and a Pie Supporter.  Survived El Alamein against Ronmel and took a bullet in Papua New Guinea.

The original "Anticol Man" from the late 60s or so and also played some bit part acting roles along the way, including Blue Heelers, Prisoner, Cop Shop & Crackerjack.

A very debonaire, classy chap with a happy disposition, who never showed any outward signs of the effects of his service.

Eagles dropping games at home will make it hard for them to make finals.  They seem a bit rattled from last weeks big choke.

Or of being a Collingwood supporter.

Good luck to the Pies tonight then!

Loving watching the power forwards with the new rule changes. Darling tonight is a joy to watch. Physical, clunking marks, and that pure straight run up.

Why is Buckley keeping his best player Moore in the fwd line for this entire quarter?

unbelievable. Pies can’t touch it and Moore starts most of their attacks from HB

But as others have said, we have only beaten teams below us. ?

A bit like the bottom teams complaining of a rigged schedule because they only play teams above them ?

It is hard to judge teams with so many injuries. Wet coke are depleted and the filth have lost 2 important players already. Ground skills are dreadful.

Gee no Howe and no DeGoey, the eagles should roll home. If they can't get over the pies on there home ground they don't deserve a spot in the 8.

Ha I see Scomo is there. Been to more afl games in the last 3 weeks than he ever has. He'd still be learning on what's going on. Anyway the crowd seemed to welcome him.

Oscar Allen, Ben King, Max King, Harry McKay, Aaron naughton, Mitch Georgiades...

The way the game is changing to suit key forwards all the kids above are in for some huge goal hauls and will kick a lot of goals in their careers.

Hoping Luke Jackson can start sticking his marks and kicking goals soon like the above mentioned.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
