Long-time defender and quietly smug in the best possible way about what he’s become (and becoming).

Keep at it Chuck

Incredible ball use. Love him.

Spargs didn't have much luck in front of goal V the Lions but his footpassing is ace. I loved that passage where Harmes burst out from half back and hand-passed to Spargs, who then turned and kicked an inch-perfect pass to TMac, who was behind his opponent at the time. But I am puzzled. No matter how well he plays, or whether he has just run down an opponent or picked out a team mate 40 metres downfield, HE NEVER SMILES. It's in stark contrast to everybody else around him, even TMac, who these days loves a goal celebration. What is it with Spargs? Is he a worry-wort? Is he composing the next chapter of his autobiography while he plays? Is he trying to remember the coach's instructions?  I can't tell what he is thinking. I'd hate to play him at poker.

I prefer that he doesn’t. Keep it all business. Do your job, position up again and repeat. A few others could take a leaf from Charlie’s book. Plenty of time to celebrate when the job is finished.

I saw it towards the end of last year he had something to contribute, and we constantly would hear that he was rated highly internally by the coaching staff.

The contrast between who he is now compared to round one last season is t even in the same postcode.

He’s become the player I want to have ball on the edge of 50.

Just amazing vision, and precision.

I believe the fitness staff has turned this boy into a man and the result is he will play his 50th game in a few weeks so he has matured, looks quicker and has realised what he needs to do to stay in the team as well as what his job is in that team,

There is no 'i' in team but there is a 'me' and if you rearrange the letter it spells tame and when players play for them selves they play selfish football which in the dying moments of a close game means they want to win the game off their own boot leading to panic and defeat.

Watch his interview from a couple of weeks back on MFC website/app....he’s a serious, thinking man’s footballer. Will always be looking to get the best from himself.

Perhaps genetics and natural evolution - was 18 when he joined, is now 21 (boy to man) ?

But that would mean we have to wait for all players to mature before we start potting them! Nuh, can’t be right.

we now have collected a group of young players who are footballers first they know the caper naturally

Spargo, Rivers,Jordon Sparrow and to someextent Jackson

What a fantastic group for the future

Ohh and BTW Spargo is a gun!!

This is one of the things I admire in him.  He is a no nonsense, get the job done type player.

I like seeing blokes enjoying themselves out there but over celebrating does my head in.

Don't change Charlie!

Like many others, I’m here for my serving of humble pie please

Smart footballer. Three clear examples on Friday in the 3rd quarter.

1- Spargo was about 25-30 metres out running in the boundary line and centre the ball to Kozzy (beautifully waited ball) 20 metres out from goal instead of a shot from the boundary (pity Kozzy missed the shot)

2- Spargo contested against two taller opponents, with the ball falling front and centre for Trac to rove it and kick an inspirational goal.

3- Third quarter. Anb tackled and got a quick kick away which Spargo tapped across and down to Tmcd advantage to run onto and kick the goal.

He only had one possession from these 3 examples but all were very smart plays.

He had 14 possessions which is the standard for a small permanent half forward .  But Charlie has to bring this each and every week and is now doing that. His tackling is also vastly improved.  A big plus mark so far in 2021.

Bump, and I hope the re-start of something positive for Charlie and the team.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.

  • PREGAME: Geelong

After a one-year reprieve, the Demons return down the freeway to Kardinia Park — the site of both one of our greatest triumphs and one of our darkest days — as they face the Cats under Friday night lights. This one could get ugly. Who comes in, and who comes out?
