Feels so good to have full length quarters again.

We still bomb, bomb, bomb into the forwardline indiscriminately!

Baker amongst it. Looked comfortable.

I’ve seen enough. Is the granny back at the G this year?

Amen.

Jetta any issues on his hit on Tom Lynch? Lynch sooked it up big time. And Jetta played well that quarter.

Promising signs from TMac. Lever's disposal hopefully rusty.

Forward pressure not good enough to stop their run out of defence.

Although we lead they looked more threatening when they went forward.

Spargo promising.

Lynch is an expert, bit of a worry.

Reprimand I would think due to low impact and being in a contest (so not intentional). Lynch deserved it

It is hard not to dislike Lynch.

So I won't bother trying not to.

He [censored] me to tears.

Any idea why Riewoldt’s taken 2 marks on Jetta?

T Macs taken 3 contested marks.

Jones still knows how to kick a snag for our first.

Death, Taxes, Gravity, Jetta always on a much bigger opponent (leads to him being crunched and carrying injuries for the majoirty of the season).

Great to see TMac more mobile and his great hands.

still not great with our forward entries but good effort around the the field. Baker and James Jordan showing a bit.

Go Dees

Good quarter. Lever, Baker and Petracca playing well. Good to see Oliver playing

Surely any contact on that grub must be deemed as low

Hit on Tom Lynch? Are you talking about where Jetta brought him to ground late in the qtr? That was barely a free, Lynch sooked it up at the umps as usual. Nothing in it. Lynch is a weapons-grade *log

Can't see any significant signs of change regarding all ball use going forward.

Our pressure has been fantastic which is nothing new aside from our lapses during some games.

But all I want to see in these pre-season games is some genuine change in the way we move the ball.

Early thoughts:

1) It looks like Goody has finally figured out there is no need to rush in new players just because they look good at training - Jones and Jetta get games, while our third year men - Jordan, Sparrow, Chandler and Baker all get game time ahead of younger rivals.

2) Lever strong in air, Spargo vision, Trac brilliance, Baker and Langdon tackling.

3) It seems when Tiger bigs get free kick or mark in middle of ground we will sag off and ignore manning mark - thereby forcing their bigs to make right attacking decision.

just one quarter though

There were at least 2 instances in that quarter where we didn't man the mark. The first was just outside 50 and resulted in a shot on goal. Bit of a concern

Why is Jetta always against someone a foot taller?

Probably because we have a $700K a season CHB who won't play on a man.

The siren at Casey Fields sounds like Gus the steam shovel from Mr Squiggle.

Spargo might not be able to roost it 60m, but his kicks are flat and get where they are going nice and quick.

The classic 4 up in the marking contest. It’ll work this year you’ll see.

gawn's kick from d50 straight into the 'hot spot' at the top of the 50 was laughably bad

tigers still look a mile better but at least are only a couple of points up

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
