No doubt a superstar thatโ€™s why 80 picks were taken before he was even considered.

2 ACL's might be the reason he was overlooked.

Oh great Geelong got him...ย  he will become an All Australian now and we would have missed the boat yet again

Is it? not being smart but what qualities does he have?

The players have been praising him all pre-season and I heard he was very impressive yesterday. ย He is my rd 1 bolterย

errr, no - category a rookie at the tiggas

they were always likely to sign him up

I'm happy with the signings. I saw Smith at training during the pre-season and he stood out to me. He's lightly framed, but he moves really well and has Rosman like fitness/endurance. He can play Wing and Half Back like Bowey... perhaps we will see a changing of the guard by mid season with Nevย and Hibbo nearing the end.ย

On Daw, going by the 2018 highlights he looks really good to help out in the forward line if needed. But I mainly see him as a back up if Gawnย goes down. We can't leave it all up to Jackson to carry the ruck duties, we needed a senior body andย he'll be more than serviceable when called upon.ย

Good luck to Majak, interesting that Goody said โ€œweโ€™re going to take our time with youโ€. Indicates to me that we arenโ€™t expecting him to be in the side any time soon.ย

Anyone notice Goodwin giving Pickett a big hug in thr background as they were all high five each other?

Donโ€™t think so. Goody was clear in the post game presss conference that theyโ€™d be taking it slow with Majak. Had to pull himself up halfway through to include โ€œif we take himโ€

I was a bit surprised as Iโ€™d heard Richardson on SEN say weโ€™d gone for Daw over Paddy McCartin because Daw was good to go for Rd 1 and this was a key selection criteria. Maybe Daw over stated his unobserved pre season?

That is a super observation dd, very observant mate and lovely to see

With the seaside idyll of the post-practice match recovery session in full swing and the boys attired in down the beach mufti. As self-appointed resident fashionistas on DL, a few observations may be in order.

Feed theย  Christians to the lions (bullies) look is definitely popular given the squad was taken to the sword yesterday afternoon at Marvel Colosseum.

Not surprisingly that the two Christians, Petracca and Salem are leading the trend as sandal wearers but Gus, Austin Bradtke and James Harmes are amongst a solid representation of dedicated followers of fashion too.

Special mentions to Jack Viney for his retro-homage Johnny Weissmuller look, speedos are making a comeback.

And Tmac for having nailed the Brooks Brothers 'trackie dacs' style meister award .

Goody telling Daw that we are going to take our time with him just shows how out of touch Goody is.

The bloke is 29 FFS, the whole point of bringing him in is to help cover Brown and Weiderman. ย Itโ€™s not like we are going to develop him in the VFL for the next 3-5 years before considering him for a run. Expectation is if we bring blokes on at 29 that they are damn ready to go and fill a need.

ย

That said happy for Daw, hope he goes well.

Nonsense. All it shows is that Goodwin knows how to take the pressure off players by lowering supporter's expectations.

Good grief.ย  You don't think Goody was talking about a timescale of weeks, not years?ย  But if he is out of touch, he is out of touch on everything I guess.

Congratulations Majak Daw, keep working hard Majak and feel proud when you pull on the Red and Blue jumper it is always great when you get a second chance at the top. Who knows you and BB could end up being a big part of the Spine of a a very successful club, so give it your all and who knows.ย  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll be surprised if Majak ever plays for us I don't understand this signing at all....

Respect your opinion Sisso but that feels just a tad "glass half empty" and I hope he can prove you wrong and make a meaningful contribution

Going from a suburban preseason and rushing to to be match fit for round one is a hamstring injury waiting to happen. ย
His comments werenโ€™t out of touch, they were realistic.

I actually read this the other way around; the glass half full look is that Majak is there is everything goes horrifically badly and our prime key forward / back / ruck options are injured or horrifically out of form

Oh...wait...

3 out of four 1st choice KP players either ruled out or doubtful for early games - I'd say glass half empty was the mindset but only Sisso will be able to confirmย

Whatever it was doesn't really matter - our stocks are low and unfortunately TMac continues to struggle so we need helpย

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturdayโ€™s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFLโ€™s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterdayโ€™s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown andย  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
