According to “The Age”, these documents are going to be released at the instigation of a law suit brought about by Bruce Francis, the ex-Australian Test batsman. Apparently he thinks it is going to clear all those at Essendon at the time, including James Hird,  of all blame. Not surprising coming from someone like Francis who has a bit of a “looney-tunes” reputation, but he has zero chance of success.

Nevertheless, it will be interesting to read them if only in an historical context, and to see how fair the ASADA judgements were. I will bet now, it won’t be a pretty sight for Hird and the Essendon board of the time.

Nice for a change that it's another club having an historical issue dragged back up through the preseason. If I had to go through another regurgitation of tanking it would do my head in.

Hes a strange fella.  Let it go, Bruce.

Should probably thank him however for bringing it back into the news on the eve of  the season.  I am sure all at Essendon would be thrilled with him.

Wow. Bruce really is a bit short on for intelligence

This will be great entertainment

Collingwood will be hoping this gets released so they can slip out of the media's spot light for a while.

The AFL might wish they are back into Covid hubs.  Bit of their plate that would be a little concerning, add this onto the Collingwood issue, plus the concussion issue and add in the Trans Gender issue in AFLW.  Drugs, Racism, Mental Health and Gender discrimination, bit of a mine field there.

It is all about James Hird when it comes to Bruce. Think he is mates with Allan Hird.

The AFL of course will have their bit redacted, not a lot of ways left to look though...

Just as people may sometimes hear only what they want to hear,  they can also read into things only what they believe to be true.

The below is taken from the "Justice for the 34" facebook page and says much about Bruce Francis. I have to admit to a little bit of schadenfreude in Francis's pursuit of this. Francis would be one of those people who gets a cut that never heals because he pulls the scab off it every time it starts to form.

Reading the CC list at the bottom I was stunned that Slobbo wasn't included.

Go get em Bruce. I hope this leaves you with egg on your face and deepens the pain and suffering of all involved.  If it means Hird never coaches again, then I will by him an ice cream!

Pickett, Francis has form. This is by no means the only “looney-tunes” pursuit he has targetted. Hardly an objective observer..

as Sir Humphrey said " never ask a question you don't know the answer to ...."

Bruce may expose more than he wants to hear.  Remember it was the Australian Crime commission which first alerted the AFL to check out what was happening.....

And WADA has a lot more than they released. Hird is still cooked...

In the meantime Essendon has recently hit a major milestone..... 6000 days without a finals win ? ?

And that win was against us.   We choked in that final badly.

Could have got some small payback for the 2000 GF, but no.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
