Couldn't care less. I'm pleased that he's done. He took the money and ran, that doesn't mean he's entitled to me now feeling sorry for him. I don't care about his family, his dad his wife, his gardener, his former roommate or anyone relating to him I've never met including he himself. So long and good luck.

5-6yrs ago Martin shopped himself around for big coin and got no takers.
Still a loose cannon.
I think it was the rocket he needed to prove every-one wrong.
Would the same thing have happened if we picked him up ..... Who knows.

McMahon didn't miss though

If he misses that shot for goal a lot of things could (or would) have been different

It was a real sliding doors moment ... Tiger fans who for years were filthy that McMahon kicked that goal are probably now thankful that he did kick the goal

It should be remembered that Trengove was all the rage as well and the Tigers might have picked Trengove over Martin if Jack was available.  Or Scully of course who they were just as enamoured with

One goal kicked or missed changes the course of history.  The bottom end of the ladder in 2009 had 3 or 4 teams that weren't trying to win so any unplanned win didn't suit any of those teams

The Scully/Trenners vs Martin debate has been done to death but I'll add a quick 2 cents to the argument. Development wise we were such a ridiculous basket case at the time and I really think the tanking issues with creating a culture of losing played it's part in it. I think we could've been handed the greatest player potential wise (I'm talking Judd, Ablett, Voss etc) and still completely stuffed up his development. Therefor I see the argument of who we chose being moot, I think Dusty should just count his blessings that we didn't choose him.

Yes, I remember the talk well  too. It was like a boys club where no one was prepared to speak their own mind. I do not want to sound a know all but I was also massively underwhelmed when I saw Sheahans footage on Jack watts at Brighton on his Future stars program. All I saw was a kid taller than his opponent lead out, mark and kick from 35 to 40 with no pressure on. I felt we were looking for players who were clones of the type of players we needed regardless of their real attributes or desire.

Yes, in 2012 and 2013 I can understand the hate but surely by now he's a long forgotten former MFC player that is now at his third club and is probably near retirement.

I would’ve took the money too if I were Scully. We were a basket case of a club. He set himself up for life. Made the most out of a very limited skill set. When it’s all said and done Scully was an above average athlete and below average football player. He got paid millions more than footballers twice his capability. Fair play to him.

In 2012 Tom Scully moved to GWS on a six figure sum and signed a contract for six years worth six million dollars, However his father Phil was also working as a  recruiting officer for the Giants and was on a 100,000 dollars a year for six years. Not long before signing Tom.

How coincidental,   as Tom stated he had no knowledge of  an offer to his father prior to signing  his own deal.

That is not fair play.

Yep. The family were on a nearly $7mill long term deal, and Tom didn’t know anything about it. 
as a member I was disgusted at The AFL.

Not fair play but in the end both clubs got screwed...Tom & his dad set themselves up nicely through no fault of their own.

Average footballer, seems like a robot of a person, plays a boring style of footy built on running 50kms to receive one handball, has a punchable face, disliked by his teammates across three clubs. He’s not exactly a likeable bloke, regardless of him bailing on us all those years ago.

Don’t blame him for taking the money and leaving either. I’d have done the same, as would most others. Just don’t like him!

You have always been a fence sitter.         How did TOM  and his Dad get  Screwed?    Please explain. 

 I think you meant we got screwed.     The father maneuvered everything for his own gain through his son when he saw the opportunity.  I am sure GWS had a say.

Scully is a good example of a young champion footballer that makes the grade but struggles to make an impact. Happens to many if not most. It’s a warning that champion schoolboys need careful assessment. Also a warning that many schoolboys are “over trained” by the time they get there and develop chronic injuries early on. From memory Scully had problems almost from the start. Certainly, he had an injury hampered career.  

From a monetary viewpoint he was in the right place at the right time. He and Dad made a killing but only because clubs came knocking with pockets if not sacks of money. Given the nature of the dog eat dog mentality of footy these days, you can’t blame him.  Sure he may have misled many in the process but he was a young kid taking the advice of an elder. And whose to say he was wrong. Financially, footy has delivered a comfortable lifestyle and secure future, even if he never works a day in his life. 

As it was, it turned out to be a blessing for the Demons. Saved the club lots of money and what to do with an overpaid player that falls below expectations. And think of how many of us would have had the Jack Watts if Scully had continued with the Dees.

Yes .... Pretty sure he turned up already with Osteitis pubis issues.
Or started suffering very soon after.

Scully had a very good 2016 and 2017 and was nominated in the All Aust 40 squad both years. This coincided with back to back prelim finals for his club.

To call him a below average played is incorrect IMO.
