Suggest this has more to do with the Qb game than Viney.  “Will you be right by then, jack”?  “Yep, I start running Tuesday and will be cherry ripe by QB”.  Suggest this does not preclude him being available earlier....

actually he said before qb game

Viney has been sidelined for the past fortnight with another foot injury and is yet to pinpoint
a return date, but believes his recovery is "tracking really well".

Speaking at the launch of Big Freeze 7 in support of Neale Daniher's FightMND foundation,
Viney said he will be back in action before the annual Queen's Birthday clash with Collingwood.

So much for 2-3 weeks.

Having let the bone heal and gradually increased his loading, Viney said he plans to resume running on Tuesday and is confident he will be back to face the Magpies in five weeks’ time in round 13, in what has become the annual FightMND Big Freeze fundraiser led by inspirational former Demons coach Neale Daniher.

This is bad news indeed.

If its the case then I stand by thread that maybe we lack midfield depth.

Imagine if we lost Trac or Oliver or they are suspended.

Harmes was good as is Jordan but is Sparrow up to it?

I defy anyone to argue we need to find a replacement for Jack. Not that I want him replaced but we need to cover our bases.

Perhsps a filler is a better word.

Maybe you could find someone in Goulbourn Prison

A story in The Age promoting Neale Daniher's Big Freeze features Jack Viney who says he expects to be "cherry ripe" for the Queens Birthday day game in round 13.

This has been a very long 2-3 week injury.  Hope he's fully recovered.

he also said he expected to be back in action before qb game...... the prev game to qb is 10 days before

“I will be cherry ripe for the Big Freeze, that’s for sure, but in terms of when I come back, (I’m) not 100 per cent sure, but it is tracking really well,” Viney said at the Big Freeze launch on Monday.

Important context that he was asked at the launch of the big freeze.

The clubs initial time frame was round 10. Viney says for sure by round 13 he’ll be back.

My guess is round 11 or 12.

Now he has two dodgy feet!

We will just have to nurse him to the end of the season and the finals, like we did in 2018.

Jack will be lucky to play 10 games a season. Foot problems don’t go away, they are managed

Totally amazing that he played 21/22 in 2019 and 16/17 in 2020 then

Worrying stuff.  Is Chunk up to covering as an extra rotation  for short stints off the bench?  Probably not eh.

Alternatively chunk shares the wing role with Gus who spends a bit of time in the middle to assist with rotations?

More time in the middle for LJ who is pretty good and mobile at ground level for a big man?

Like Deaver, ideally i still feel we are short one very good classy mid fielder.  Would have loved to have landed Tom Green in the draft but you can't select everybody.

I suppose we have the luxury of not rushing him. In saying that I get the feeling this will be an on going issue for his whole career.

I would imagine they will be very cautious due to his history and at 8-0 we have that luxury. If it takes another 4/5 weeks then so be it. This is exactly why early wins are some important.

Also why we should target another midfielder in the mid season draft!

Just as a QB aside, we won't need to worry about Jeremy Howe who will miss most of the rest of the season after requiring surgery to repair damage caused when he aggravated scar tissue on his hamstring at training on Saturday.

The way he explained it in that interview (link below) suggests that this is not unchartered waters. Given the procedure he had in the pre-season it was likely that there could be issues. He's been through it before with his other foot and this time he & the medicos were more vigilant - catching the reactions as hot spots before they got to the stress fracture stage.

I suspect some of his prior foot issues were exacerbated by JV trying to push through it. Reckon it would be hard work trying to get him to come off the track.

I posted a couple of years ago regarding the operation he had after tearing his Plantar Fasciitis and that I had spoken to the head physio at North during that time who mentioned Jack's foot wouldn't be the same and that he'd be constantly battling it from here on.

Not surprising.

However. We're 8-0 so we have every reason to hold him back on a return date so that we can get a consistent block of games from him.

That goes for all players who need management from here on and I'll be keen to see what we do from a selection pov going forward. Listening to David King on Whately this morning, he basically said that from here on it'll be about management for us. It's incredible we've banked so many wins without playing a sing four quarter game. We have the luxury of being able to rest anyone who is sore knowing that we need our core firing toward the end of the season.

I'm happy for Vines to take all the time he needs. And I really hope we see some well thought out management of players over the coming weeks. Especially against lesser sides/short turn-arounds/long travel.

Not surprising.

Surely Melb would know this too, which makes you question a 5 year deal.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
