I don’t get the Leppa one. Hasn’t he stated he is done with football and pursuing other interests.

But that’s what I said. If, he stays in football, the Dees are a real chance.  He might not get the opportunities outside of football in this COVID stuffed world.

Let’s not underestimate that the Dees are now the great and enticing challenge of the AFL.

Heard the same, although I was told Leppitsch is a very good chance. Your intel seems even more feasible though given Leppitsch said he was walking away from footy.

Yze will come on board as senior assistant, contract details being finalized, done in the next week or two. You couldn't pick better strengths from a coaching point of view for our needs.

There's a feeling that Richardson may take over Mahoney's role, but a few things have to fall into place for that. I think it relies a bit on the review and then potentially also what Leppitsch decides, although that's all speculative at this point given the nature of this time of year.

What exactly has Mahoney done wrong? Genuine question.

Cannot understand the excitement here.

Have a read of Older Demons excellent post which explains that this is mainly about cutting 3 odd million from the coaching and support staff budget.

It could have the consequence of causing a bit of a merry go round which could bring Yze to us but that would not be its main aim.

Really?  (Bolded part) Can't see in his cv what credentials/experience he has for the GM role.

I hope it isn't a case of:  'the GM position is vacant, Richo is surplus so lets put him in the job'!  I've seen it happen many times in organisations, it never ends well.

I was told couple of weeks ago that the Club is in advanced discussions with Yze and are being listened to by Leppitsch.

My source said that Yze is very likely and if Leppitsch decides to continue in Footy, it will be with the Dees.

Thanks for sharing the info - this would be a great get, if it eventuates.

Ironically, I think it would be strengthened further if Goody took the third assistant coach role and someone like Roos came in at the top. I think Goodwin is a great line/assistant coach, especially given his rapport with the players. This is a different skill set to that of a head coach, but one which I (from the outside) think Goody is better suited for.

This would be gorgeous.

Yze as forward coach, Leppitsch as defensive coach and Michael Voss as midfield coach. I can dream.

Dream on, Adam.

For me it is more of a nightmare:  3 failed first time coaches (Leppitsch, Richardson and Voss) working for a struggling, under pressure first time coach.  No thanks!

I can understand the reticence towards Richardson and Voss, but Leppa has had plenty of success as an assistant coach after his time as a head coach.  He would be a very handy acquisition, although coaxing him out of this 'retirement' might be difficult.

No problem with Voss or Leppa just not all 3 of them which is what AF was dreaming.

We often see this....excellent assistant coaches who fail at the top job.  Justin Leppitsch is a classic example.

That phenomenon has a name: "The Peter Principle"

We had an even more classic example in our recent past !!!!!

You're saying Goodwin has reached his level of incompetence?

I believe so.

And, if they "promote" Richardson to Mahoney's job "The Peter Principle" phenomenon will again kick in.

Hi, long time observer of your posts...

Are there any redeeming qualities about this club you allegedly support?

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I am confident this deal will happen. Heard from a usually reliable source that Adem was super keen to join at the end of 2019 and we were chasing him hard. Hawthorn played hardball and refused to let him break the contract that was in place and there was an understanding that he’d join Melbourne at the end of 2020. It sounds like this is very close to happening now.

Leppitsch would be a great get but I’m sure wouldn’t be cheap. Yze is highly rated and will have to be renumerated accordingly. Burgess would be on top dollar. Goodwin, Richo, Mahoney and the rest.

Genuine question. How do we cut costs to fit under the cap and at the same time afford to pay all of the above?

The cap is a soft cap so clubs can pay over they just have to pay a "penalty" tax

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
