Would much rather lose Richardson than Burgess.

It's not a matter of either/or as far as I've heard. Burgo is likely back to SA more for family reasons I think.

Wonder if Burgo can work from home?

All us yobbos have done it this year.

There will probably be a thread about that.

I promise I won't start it, but I will prob comment. Nothing else to do in the off season!

That's a great little off-season win if true, he's done a good job with what he had over one season so hopefully two seasons gives him a chance to really hone the attitudes and fitness of the playing group.

???

This makes me haaaaaaapeeeeeeeeeeee!

Huge news for us and a massive win!

It would have been a big call to break contract at a time like this. Everything is so up in the air re Covid and the timing of pre season etc etc So his position is even more critical than normal . I imagine they might have said we need a year to replace you.  Doesn’t guarantee he would stay of course but I’m stoked he did.... if this is true

Adelaide are understood to have missed out on Darren Burgess, with the fitness boss set to remain at Melbourne, per Matt Turner/The Advertiser.

This might be your first unanimously liked post on DL Dazzle.

Great news.

I don't want to play negative nancy and burst anyone's bubble but the article's content doesn't instill me with any confidence.

"Adelaide has been in talks with Burgess about him joining from Melbourne, where he has spent the past 12 months, and he is keen to return to SA for family reasons.

But he is contracted for another two seasons with the Demons and is expected to stay there."

There is no new information here or a even a quote. It's just the author's conjecture based upon information that is already out there. We're not even 100% sure he is contracted for 2 more years. The initial reports of him coming to Melbourne only mentioned 1 year and the odd article here and there recently have mentioned this 2 more years. I'm not doubting the 2 more years but as we know contracts aren't worth anything these days and the "family reasons" can be a huge deal especially when it comes to breaking contracts.

I'd put a cork in those champagne bottles and let the MFCSS flow through your veins.

A credit to Burgess is my take. he could have easily walked away and under all  the current circumstances few would blame him.

That he remains, hopefully, to honour his contract is a class act.

I thought this was already fairly common knowledge. I may have read it wrong and may be the Crows link hadn't been raised previously

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
