roy11 4,076 Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Hopefully the club reach out and congratulate him both publically and privately on his career. Now he can focus on his true passions as per those leaked messages. 3 1 Quote

Demon3 2,541 Posted September 24, 2020 Posted September 24, 2020 Its so funny that a player like Jack had such an impact on me and the supporters. For me, he is up there with Jeff Farmer as my favourite Demon ever. Played in constantly bad teams under bad coaches and bad regimes.. yet smiled his way through it, was always polite and positive and when your kids love a player like you do, then you know the impact he has had. Wish him nothing but the best, a class act on and off the field. 43 5 Quote

DemonOX 8,857 Posted September 24, 2020 Posted September 24, 2020 (edited) Good luck Wattsy. Could only imagine what you could have been achieved if you had been developed properly from the start of ur career and had an experienced coach (apart from Roos) Hopefully this is the last Jack Watts thread. Hogan2014 390 Posted September 24, 2020 Posted September 24, 2020 Very sad end.... looking back was very unfortunate he come into a club which was a train wreck built on tanking & the idea that early draft picks would fix the issues of climbing the ladder & getting success, poor kid was gifted games & thrown to the Wolves Cleary not ready, having said that from 2014 the environment under Roos become stable & was given every opportunity & started to turn the corner but just not sure wether he truly wanted it anymore Quote

I did.. clearly remember watching that game and the pure elation at the goal! Was very upset when he was let go, emailed the club, complained to anyone that would listen. Was one of my favourite players, admittedly I was perhaps always blinded by his glimpses and potential. Sad way to end his career, as his game/s before the leg break looked like he was playing well. All the best Jack! 7 1 Quote

Absolutely - I get a lump in my throat whenever I watch that. The look on his face as he turns away says it all: utter relief and exhaustion. He really came to the club at the worst time and was let down by its administration, yet smiled through it all. I wish him all the best in whatever he goes into next - such a ripping young man. 5 Quote

Here’s hoping he is well enough to be there. 5 Quote
KysaiahMessiah 725 Posted September 24, 2020 Posted September 24, 2020 Thrown to the wolves on debut, but I loved him as a player and the QB goal was one of my alltime favourite live highlights watching MFC. Good luck Jack, and thank you. 4 1 Quote
Little Richard 6,265 Posted September 24, 2020 Posted September 24, 2020 That goal sends shivers down my spine and will always be one of my favourite MFC memories. Unfortunately he was under extreme pressure right from the start, thanks to a poorly run organisation, a rabid media and us fans who wanted so much out of him. His resilience throughout it all was so impressive and he still managed to build a 178 game career, something most only dream of. Ironically he's exactly the kind of player we could use right now. All the very best to you in the next chapter of your life Wattsy. Forever a Dee 9 Quote
Dannyz 3,101 Posted September 24, 2020 Posted September 24, 2020 A really solid career. Played some outstanding games on the G. The MFC's best field kick of the last two decades for mine. Enjoy retirement Wattsy. 3 2 1 Quote
spirit of norm smith 16,680 Posted September 24, 2020 Posted September 24, 2020 Jack Watts. A name many of us will always remember. He was to be our saviour. So much pressure on a kid. He just wanted to play footy. He was always fantastic on supporter days. I remember one year at Luna Park. We chatted to Jack for a few minutes. He really engages with the kids. Gave up his time and a million photos with families and all supporters. Even after all the players had left. The kids loved him. More than half the kids in 2009-10 had the number 4 on their back. He never got the development to take him to the top, and survived through some horrible years. Stayed loyal. Resisted free agency. I think Paul Roos was the coach be needed. Not a Neeld or a Goodwin. His goal on Queens Birthday 2017 will be remembered. 152 games as a Demon. He will always be welcome back as a Demon. 6 1 Quote
DeeZee 7,496 Posted September 24, 2020 Posted September 24, 2020 I don’t think I’ve ever wanted a player to succeed as much as this guy. 19 Quote

He was an excellent kick always wished he had of stayed we miss a player who can finish like he could. My favourite all time Watts moment was that goal against Collingwood when he ran and bounced it into the forward 50 and then steadied and slotted it through. Wish he could teach our players how to kick. All the best Jack, forever a Demon. 4 Quote
Salems Lot 2,692 Posted September 24, 2020 Posted September 24, 2020 Loved him, one of my favourites. Sublime skill base that was never fully exploited. 6 Quote
DeeZone 10,596 Posted September 24, 2020 Posted September 24, 2020 My entire family and I were very upset when Jack was moved on, we all loved what Jack bought to the club and that clip of QB against the Pies and kicking the winning goal on the G in front of 70 thousand screaming Dee & Pie supporters is such a great memory particularly with the theme from Titanic in the background. Good luck Jack with whatever you choose to do in the future. 3 1 Quote
Vagg 2,449 Posted September 24, 2020 Posted September 24, 2020 Very sad to hear Jack's career has ended this way. Really feel for the guy. Will always have great memories of him at the MFC -- and think about what might have been! All the best, Jack! 5 Quote
