I wouild have Jackson and Sparrow in the side with ANB and Brown out.

ANB may well end up out-running as a tag on Tipungwuti. He has the recovery and endurance if he is quick off the mark - ie: not chasing from afar. The team is picked but I'd expect it to be variable with several players doing tasks unexpectedly. As part of this, I'd like to see Smith rotating (with someone across the game) into the forward line for some goal kicking-practice or an intercept mark and feed, for example. He'd be handy doing that if we make the finals.

Tipungwati - he seems to be our danger man.  I’d preferred Lockhart in but we will have to use Hibberd or Salem.  Maybe even Hunt could be an option.

From what I heard, his hammy was right this week, he was told early in the week by Goodwin that he hadn't earned his spot back.

Do you really expect the club to tell supporters and media about the reason why 22 other blokes are not in the squad?

Lockhart is a mid- range player that has others in front of him, no commentary required.   It’s not like they are leaving Gawn out of the side.

Turn it up.
Was in the squad for weeks in a row, didn't drop in form, all of a sudden out of the team, no mention as to why.

can count 7 players that you can argue should/shouldn't be in the team.

Perhaps. But the 7 players who could replace them are in the same boat.

Brown & Weiderman didn’t kick a goal between them & Weids is goaless for last 3 games .. what’s up with Tom Mac??? Would be good to see him get one on one with a defender as very strong plus a great kick..

Lockhart, first season last year and has only played about 20 games, some people have no idea.

Wrong.

Lockhart supporter. Keep saying the same thing though: anyone who wants an insight into selection go and closely watch the replay of our Bulldogs match. Kid isn't ready yet. Major positioning issues. But I think another pre-season and he will be a main-stay. Hibberd for Jetta (who was injured as far as I can recall) is fair. Jay can take Jetta's spot next year.

Doesn't bode well for Tmac's future

Probably better for Harmes to miss and get a clear preseason in than risk doing it again

Agree... that's why it is a mid level team at best

plenty of time to discuss in the off season which I think will start in about 24-48 hours

I must of missed the games where he dominated.
I hope they send out of a report to why Dunkley and Corey Wagner aren’t playing.  It’s completely ridiculous they haven’t said anything.

Tomald having zero agility or the ability to take a contested mark or kick goals and then no confidence didn't bode well for his future. Take whatever we can get which will probably be nothing. The club didn't majorly err in a contractual sense (can't wait for the hindsight heroes on here to pipe up soon), but it's just an unlucky fact of nature where we now need to cut our losses. Chronically injured and never got back. Simples. All clubs cop it.

Jetta a bit stiff thought Smith would get axed. Hibberd is a good in can't complain about that.

Will probably be very stiff seeing as he hadn't played for an age.

Had to be Lockhart (if available) for Nev surely

Oh wait he is out.  Sorry been on the turps

Comparing players who haven't played a game this year, to one who has consistently played games, good move.
Blocked.

Lots of Lockhart supporters.

Just a battler.

Agree.

I'm surprised he's not in the side given opposition goals come overwhelmingly from smalls and mediums.

Bringing jetts back in a pretty clear sign there are not too many other options.

And I like his energy and attack on the ball carrier. But he is pretty limited and is another dee with sketchy foot skills.

Not the team line up i imagined the start of the season aiming for finals.

Will be interesting to see how we go.

We still lack some real offensive class but Brown and spargo have stood up in recent weeks.

Would love Kozzy to kick a bag today.

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
