Wouldn't have thought he'd be on the table, but given it's Shane Crawford raising it you never know. Wouldn't put his kind of position/role at the top of our list needs-wise, but would be an improvement on players like Melksham, ANB, Hunt, Hannan, Jones etc IMO.

.....................................................................

On Nine’s Full Time, Crawford suggested 27-year-old Wingard - who only joined the club two years ago in a trade from Port Adelaide - could move if a suitable trade package is offered.

“You don’t have much control because the club virtually takes control of your destiny a bit, especially if there’s going to be a better deal,” Crawford said.

“I think Chad Wingard, I’m not saying you want to trade him, but I reckon clubs would probably see him as the most important Hawthorn player because he’s a wonderful ball user, plays across half forward.

“His first six games this year was right up there with the very best. Then he’s had a big drop away, but he’s played a lot more through the middle.

“He’s played half forward, he’s a beautiful kick for goal.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if a lot of clubs come asking about Chad Wingard and whether or not they can get him on their list.”

HAWKS GREAT WOULDN’T BE SHOCKED IF STAR WAS TARGETED

Jesus he is the exact type of player we desperately need. Just has that x factor and class on the outside that we're lacking.

Interesting that Crawford suggests this.

Surely the Hawthorn rebuild isn’t this big that they are dumping Wingard?

I’ve seen talk this year that he isn’t entirely happy

There’s no way Hawthorn are going to trade Wingard. But if they did (which they won’t), I’d consider taking him if he changed his name from ‘Chad’.

Top 5 best looking blokes in the AFL.  Chase him based on that alone.

No no no

The word when he left Port was that he was already over footy then, and he hasn't regained that desire since crossing to Hawthorn - just happy to earn a pay cheque.

This is Crawf shopping around damaged goods. His last good year was 2016.

No.

If Hawks are prepared to let him go after giving up Pick 15, 35 and Burton (who was pick #19 just two years earlier) there is a problem.

iirc didn't he tell GWS or GCS to not draft him as he wouldn't go there.

Stay away.

Yep. Peaked at 21 and has slowly gone backwards since then.

Clarko would really be having a big clear out if Wingard left. What did he cost them? Wasn't it Burton and a 1st rounder? Either Clarko would be a genius or he'd be following the Sheedy road to senility

Would rather have Garlett back.

LH mentioned above that it cost them pick 15, 35 and Burton.

If they're giving up on him after two years then I'd stay away as he is clearly damaged goods and the Hawks would want something decent in return to make up for their loss.

A no from me.

Such a weird career trajectory. Looked like he'd be one of the all time greats in his first few years.

Only 27, but I don't think he will ever return to the 50 goal per season player he was.

Massive alarm bells if Hawthorn are willing to shop him around. Recruiting Wingard would actually make our forwardline less consistent, which is quite the achievement.

was moved on from the pear, and if he was moved on from the hawks then there's serious questions regarding his commitment to being a serious footballer

his talent is immense but his workrate is poor

Had his cards marked when he dropped that last seconds mark against us last year.

No.

There seems to be a strange temper doing the rounds of these boards for aging or past it Hawthorn players.

This time of year once we all start looking at potential trade targets there's different reasoning behind raising certain players or teams. Given it looks like the Hawks are looking at some kind of a rebuild, naturally people are looking at what players they may look to trade.

Similar to GWS with their cap squeeze, Carlton with a need for inside mids, Melbourne with perhaps too many inside mids, logic dictates that these things get brought up.

Not sure I'd say a 27 year old is 'past it'.

Maybe he has lost his desire for footy, however at 27 a good chat to let him know his earning away from footy is likely around $50,000 unless he has some hidden skills. Maybe a reality check and a  performance based contract might get it done. Job for Nev, Mr May  and Kozzie

I’d rather we took Jon Patton and that’s saying something

Wingard for Viney

Sometimes you read posts that take your breath away. This one of them. A club killer.

All of the trade speculation rests on Clarko finally acknowledging the club needs to rebuild, which he doesn't seem to.

Graham Wright went on radio this afternoon  seemingly shooting down any trade talk for gunston/Smith et al. And I'm more than happy to see them down the bottom in such a compromised draft

Not if he wants to go or cannot accept terms. Short memory. We took the GC skipper.

Funnily enough, he didn't mention Smith or Wingard when he brought up names.

“If you’re talking about those sort of guys Breust, Gunston, Liam Shiels who have been outstanding players for us and have been really good players for us, at the moment we need every good player we can get,”

Wright on SEN

There you go. I'm still not sure they are in the space where they'll trade guys like that out.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.
