Weed took 5 year to get consistency in his game. Hunty may  well be the same.  Maybe the penny has finally dropped. Next year may be his year.

Weed is consistent????

He is better than Spargo, ANB and Bedford and I leave Pickett on potential ahead of him.  So second best small forward on our list

Spargo is a better footballer with a footy brain Hunty is an athlete with  sporting ability
Probably we have not room for both do I guess each may  survive fir next season depending upon List numbers and our assessment

Hunt will never be more than a bit player

Even the most successful teams have their share of "bit players" as you put it.

Can't delist him after kicking 4 goals must keep he could breakout next season with opportunities.

If Hunt turns out to be our Mitch Morton in our 2021 premiership side I’ll gladly take back every word ?

I think he will be at another club next year. I can’t see us offering him more than a one year deal, while I think another club will offer two maybe three years.

Being talked about as one of the best small forwards OOC this year:the-small-forwards-in-big-demand-who-will-be-this-trade-period-s-dan-butler

"Hunt, who kicked 21 goals in 2019 as well, offers genuine speed in the front half when stationed there".

'When stationed there' is the telling part.  He has been played all over the shop and not allowed to settle into a role in the last few years.  Last year he played 21 games but he was not in the fwd line for all of them so a return of 21 goals was excellent.  I think it made him our second/third highest goal scorer in 2019.

Not big possession stats but when in the fwd line he knows where the goals are.  He is as feisty and as brave as they come.  Will be shattered ?to lose him and devastated ??if another club plays him to maximise his strengths.

I'm hearing Hawks are looking at Jayden Hunt.

Re-assembling one of the worst playing lists ever fielded seems a counter-intuitive recruiting strategy, but the hawks seem to be pursuing it with vigor. Scully, Frawley, Frost, Fitzpatrick, Cheney off the top of my head. Anyone else we can offload to them? Neeld as head of player development maybe?

Would be a classic Goodwin move to trade out one of the only quick players we have on the entire list...

This is the biggest myth on Demonland.

How did he kick 4 goals from 6 possessions this week if he doesn't have a footy brain?

He also runs towards goal then turns back and sprints on explosive leads

He is a forward

Hope he stays, i just wonder if we let him walk, then who will we be going after to replace him?

We are crying out for speed and goal kicking finishing and Jayden has both and can find separation from his opponent. He's is brave and can take contested marks and kick long. We need to sign him up. We can't afford to lose him to a rival club like a Hawthorn.

Clarkson's mob are interested and whilst they got Frost I don't want them getting Hunt.

Absolutely have to keep Hunt. Two year deal. Got pace and knows how to KICK A GOAL

FFS it’s a no brainer. Can’t let him go !!

Four weeks ago he was set to be delisted. He has a couple of passable games and ... "Look at me"

Would be very upset if MFC falls for the three card trick

When Goodwin traded our last quick player in Frosty our Defence got better. Speed is only valuable if used in the context of the game plan...

My question on Hunt and his development this year is not about his speed or ability to kick goals, but his ability to complement and serve as a cog within the broader system Goodwins putting together.

If not, like Frost, then trade him.

That's OK YW we will just ask for either Breust OR Gunston as a swap ( or BOTH)

he already has his breakout season in 2017.  looked like the next big thing off half-back

he is my most frustrating player, such talent, speed, good aggression. I just don't think he concentrates for long enough and applies himself enough.  not sure what the issue is.

the last 3 seasons he has been inconsistent, can't be risked in the back line. in and out of the side.  I'd open for a trade, especially if it could get us a big fwd

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
