Just grabbed this from BigFooty for those who didn’t think he’s worth it:

Would prefer to keep but would definitely be an astute trade for Collingwood.

Obviously they'd be getting a classy, clever, versatile and consistent forward who has made the AA squad 5 times. However, they key thing from Collingwoods point of view is his performance in finals. Tall forwards typically struggle to impact finals but Gunston goes up a level.

He has kicked 35 goals from 15 finals (12 of those in Grand Finals) and is pretty unlucky not to have a Norm Smith or 2.

Compare him to the other forwards on the market...
Jeremy Cameron has kicked 16 from 9.
Ben Brown has kicked 9 from 7.

He even outperforms the best forwards of their finals rivals...
Hawkins has kicked 33 in 22
Riewoldt has kicked 25 in 11
Darling has kicked 30 in 16
Others (Lynch, Dixon, Hipwood, etc) are largely unproven with fewer than 4 finals.
Kennedy is the only comparable one with 37 from 16 (but Gunston does a lot more around the ground).

If only we played finals.

Fair point, but it would be nice to have the luxury of one player that can go up a level

He would be a great get, but the Hawks will surely look to re-sign him as a priority. Also, I’m not sure how Collingwood, who are apparently needing to off load players in order to re-sign Moore and De Goey, are now able to fit Gunston into their plans as well?

Talk from where?

A poor mans Mitch Brown.

Extremely disparaging of a premiership player.

Gunston is absolute silk and exactly what we need. He's still younger than me, so he's not too old (for the record, Cale Morton was the first MFC player younger than me).

^ Joke’s gone right over old mate’s head with this one…

FWIW he’s not a better player simply because he played in premierships. That’s like saying Shannon Byrnes was better than Gary Ablett Sr.

Gunstone NO.... BRUEST, HELLL YEAH.🤩

Gonna be an awesome full forward line with Tex and Gunners down there.

Luke Bruest please.

We should be pursuing Bruest at seasons end, Would love him at the Dees for minimum chips, can't see it happening though.

Class act.

I for one, look forward to having the tallest forwardline in history. Would look great next to Mac Andrew in a pocket.

I like him but not sure where he fits? TMac, Brown, Jackson, Fritsch, Pickett, Spargo, ANB - I doubt we'd want to drop any of the smalls as we need their pressure game. If Tmacs form holds he's a shoe-in as is Brown. Jackson will continue to get games. He'd basically be backup in case Fritsch got injured or we'd try and play him as a high half forward in the Melksham role from 2018 but again, at whose expense?

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
