Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think Gunston would add a lot to our side 55. Not only is he a good mark and great finisher, but he also good on the ground.

We have invested too much in Weideman and Jackson, for us to not build around them as talls. We need a mobile third option that can compete on the deck.

Fristch is the most frustrating player on the list IMO. Misses far too many set shots for a "dead eye".

I agree Fritsch is frustrating, he misses too many shots he should kick but this is fixable, he is weak defensively and that's his greatest problem IMO.  There's no doubt Gunston is superior but it's not our biggest problem and where I'd spend scarce resources.

A medium marking option is so far from our most pressing need. Gunston is a good player, but why waste resources (draft picks and money) on him when the incremental improvement is so small?

It would be much smarter to use those on a player who fills an important, pressing need .... like a crumbing small forward or a running half back.

Not sure what we're going to go with next year. Are we going to focus on winning the contest and moving the ball quickly, or are we going to continue with the slower chipping game? The more outside pace we add, the more our game style changes. Not necessarily for the worse, adding that to our inside grunt is a good thing, but I'm not convinced we know how to harness that game style.

There's still far too much learning on the job for my liking. We never settled on our team and we appeared to make constant tweaks throughout the year.

Will be fascinating to see which element we favour (inside or outside) and whether we go more attacking or more defensive.

Depends on who our new coach is !! Happy to trade Fritsch for Gunston in a heartbeat!

I would like to have Gunston, but would prefer a bigger tall, just one sure who there is!

But........ for those who want to get rid of Bailey, I just don’t understand.

He is a very, very good player.

Yes, he has missed his fair amount of goals, but who hasn’t this year (for all clubs).

He is laconic and can improve his defensive work, i totally get that, but so many are underselling what he CAN do.

He is a super mark, has a great footy IQ and his kicking skills are great (not saying goal kicking).

He is at that stage in his career when he will hit his peak now, so why get rid of him for someone in the draft?

people saying Gunston is a gun, and look at his game yesterday then say fritsch was just ok in our game. They both did the same thing. And going to Gunstons early football, I wonder how good Bailey would go with a young Franklin and Roughead next to him!

Hit the nail on the head there. Does need to become more accurate with his set shots though.

I guess some people, including me, use it to describe a laid back/relaxed demeanor.

In English it means to brief and concise in writing, but people also use it in others ways too.

I could have maybe used other words, but I was basically trying to talk about his appearance and movement.

Yes, I have used that word before about him, so was wanting to say something else!

basically, people think he doesn’t try because of his appearance, which I don’t agree with, although, he does need to get better defensively.

I don't think the improvement would be so small axis. not only would Gunston improve our best 22 and give us a better chance of winning games, his leadership and off field influence and development of Weidman and Jackson would be absolute gold.

with the FB department cap being reduced, players who can provide a level of coaching are going to be like absolute gold to teams like the MFC in 2021. i think the investment is quite a lot more than just what he could provide on the field. that's really just a bonus

I don't think people realise how good Gunston still is, he is equal second in the coleman. He would fit perfectly in at CHF with Weid at FF and Jackson floating in as 3rd tall and back up ruck. Fritta can roam a HFF as a medium forward. We desperately need one more goalkicking forward who is capable of 40+ goals a year, our current forward line doesn't cut it. I would gladly hand over hawthorn's 2nd rounder back to them but that might not cut it. If Viney leaves and we get an end of 1st round comp pick I would give that up for Gunston. Our list is in a win now category, Max and May aren't going to be around forever.

I’m with you there.

Fritsch and Weid have probably combined for the same amount of goals as Gunston this year.

We still need to find another 30-40 goal forward to add onto what ever Fritsch and Weid contribute, here he is.

He’s capable on the deck too, his roving goal on the weekend was a beauty for someone 193cm.

Also, the additional contests created means more opportunities for Kossie to get involved.

Above all else, he can be the general for the forward half and give our guys some on field directive for positioning, timing and technique

Surely it has to be both as the circumstances require. Like the EPL where most teams play out from the back and either wait for an opportunity or just thump it down the middle depending on the structure ahead. No point getting rid of one entirely.

Also, yes to Gunston. Would not mind Isaac Smith too.

Probably, but can we sustain that game style?

Foxfooty.com.au understands the Hawks would command a first-round pick in return for Gunston, who the Herald Sun reported has an annual salary of $600,000 to 650,000.

The salary might be doable if we can offload all or  a decent part of TMac's salary but at 29 he's not worth the draft pick

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
