spot on. He's so skilled that he stood out big time when he has played doing things most of the team can't execute and should be in for that reason alone.

Melbourne Prime Time TV Game on Saturday night as we fight to make finals.

What could possibly go wrong.

You do understand that we can't afford players in the team that apply zero defensive pressure?

Didn't watch the GWS game last night but I have watched them several times.

In general the teams that are successful against them force the game to be played around the boundary line and deny room to the outside runners by blocking the corridor.

It makes for an ugly game but so be it.

Will Goodwin back his usual gameplan or go defensive.

Exactly what is Goodwins game plan? From what I have  seen this year for the most part is get possesion and just blast away into the Forward line

It would certainly be a good time to play a blinder - it might save a few memberships !

I don't think we blasted away into the forward line against Freo.  We kept trying slick handballs with the slippery ball, and losing possession. Surely we should have roosted it whenever possible in those conditions.

Don’t think so. One, he is contracted. Two, he is undergoing surgery and will be sidelined up to 3 months. Really don’t think another club will come sniffing under that scenario.

While that's his reputation, I didn't see it in the games he played for us.

I'm not saying he shouldn't remain on our list, but I also think he's still some distance away from his best footy. Will he get there? I don't know.

Why do people even want to make finals? Do people think you get a trophy for coming 8th and losing first round?

we lost to Sydney and Fremantle. convincingly. I'd prefer to lose the next 2 games so change occurs.

It might be easier and less painful to change your mates.

I think so, we need to see what he offers, essentially he is our midfield depth.  If Preuss isn't going to ruck 30% of the time not sure why you would play him, the question is will Brown or Tmac offer more.

My side

Hibbard May Lever

Rivers Tomlinson Salem

Langdon Oliver Sparrow

Bennell TMac Fritsch

Pickett Weiderman Melksham

Gawn Petracca Viney

Smith AVB Bedford Baker

Out Hunt, Pruess, ANB

IN Tmac, Bennell, Sparrow

FWIW, quite a strong wind in East Brisbane today with some significant gusts.  Had some showers earlier and perhaps a little more on the way.  Supposed to be windy again tomorrow with a chance of a shower but the Gabba is fairly well protected from the wind.

I am hoping for a fast track for tomorrow evening.  We seem to be hopless in wet conditions.

We are desperate if we are getting excited and rushing Tom Sparrow back in. I think he has been fairly disappointing in every game he has played this year. I don’t think he has contributed anything to the side this year. Very young kid, with a potentially bright future, not going to make a difference this week.

in 2018, it didnt look like we'd make the finals with 2 rounds remaining then we made a prelim.

so, anything can happen

Oh christ, Leon has dropped the skipper.   he is sending a message and calling for a big effort, they will set themselves for this one

Goody can’t drop Melksham because they are buddies, but Leon Cameron is prepared to drop his captain on the eve of finals.

There’s some actual ruthlessness

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
