Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Going for one out of the box Gary Ayres as an assistant....

Can you pop him back in the box, please? Been out of the elite game for too long.

Is Alan Richardson an assistant coach or is he some kind of mentor for Goodwin?  Whats his official job title?

No idea why we got him...   he gave off Neeld vibes when at the Saints.

We got him because we like to continue with a losing fashion and he has form.

More just that it's unlikely assistants will commit to roles at other clubs if there's a senior position at stake.

This is exactly it. Don’t expect any announcements until the north position is either narrowed or filled. But we’re looking at making some changes.

I think experienced state league coaches are undervalued. It's one step down from the top stuff and things float down pretty quickly. They routinely beat the hot shot assistants that clubs have take on VFL duties. It's just a matter of knowing and finding a role for them.

I still think Choc Williams is one of the best skill coaches in the game but he's not easy to work with so GWS and Richmond moved on, but whether it was 1950 or 2050 I'd have him as a skill development coach.

Ayres' time at Port Melbourne indicates to me he's a strong man manager and good culture guy. In the right role that's worth far more than keeping up with game trends that are often changing. I doubt he wants to come back in to the system or if we have the right role but I wouldn't overlook strong state league coaches.

I sometimes think we get obsessed with the playing achievements of assistant coaches. At Hawthorn and the Swans, VFA legend and Coodabeens member George Stone was involved in six flags. He was very well regarded and respected and was one of the first Roos called on when coming to Melbourne.

The fundamentals of football don't change. Execute the fundamentals well and you are well on the way to having a good side. For that reason I think there is still a place for experienced assistant coaches like Williams and Ayres.

No worries.

I'll get the thread back on topic.

I think we've missed McCartney's presence at the club enormously and it's time we bring in some quality around Goodwin.

We need some fresh faces, ideas and people who command genuine respect so that some of those wayward players on our list get back on the straight and narrow.

I understand that positions will be reduced but we need some quality personnel in and around our playing group if we're any shot at some success.

Agree my short list would be..

Voss

Hodge

R Harvey

And try get N Balm back as head of football, probably the most important position we need experience

Salem has the potential to be kicking a lot of goals and being a serious weapon for us, just as Yze was.

PJ I would like to see Salem on the HFF really as he upped his competitiveness and urgency after halfway of 2020.

Maybe a stint on the ball and in the centre and also the FOrward Pocket would translate into a very dangerous goal kicker.

With Rivers  and Lockhart coming on I reckon we can move Salo to where he can do maximum damage on the scoreboard Its generally easier to Find a HB flanker from your list.

Oh sorry about that forgot he has been coaching at the second level at a non aligned football club that has been punching above it's weight for years now must be some sort of bad communicator to last this long, no let's not think outside the box .

So what's the status?

Confirmation of Goodwin and Yze with the rest up in the air or already terminated?

Up in the air until Pert's review is delivered to the board.

The talk is the writing is on the wall for Matthews & Plapp. Rooke is gone and the VFL coach will have no AFL based duties.

'Footy Manager'.

I wonder if he means the Josh Mahoney role of General Manager - Football  and Casey Operations or the Daniel Mcpherson role of Manager -  Football Operations and AFLW, who reports to Mahoney.

Or even the Peter Maynard role General Manager - Casey Football.  And there is the role of Garry O'Sullivan of Casey Football Manager

Looks like a fair bit of overlap there.  Would expect some rationalisation of the non-player side of FD positions to meet the FD soft cap.

I reckon Richo and Mahoney will both report to Green and the board. This acknowledges Mahoney's good work as a list manager but adds more accountability to Richo, so there's less Goodwin/Mahoney groupthink. Pure speculation, but it'll be interesting to see if this is where it lands.

Is that the same Peter Maynard who played for Melbourne in the early 80s and is the father of former Demon Corey and current Magpie Brayden?

Correct on all counts.

Mahoney to North and Richo in to his job has been doing the rounds.

Personally I’d see that as a mistake. Richo’s a coach, find him some players to coach up. Don’t shoehorn him in to a different job

What!  Split Mahoney's job in two and create another football GM and add more 'overhead' at a time when the soft cap is being cut by ~ 30%.  Doubt it.

Hawks going with a very slimmed down coaching panel:

Hawthorn has finalised its 2021 coaching structure, with club great Sam Mitchell to become head of development, while Chris Newman, Brendon Bolton and Craig McRae will be assistants under senior coach Alastair Clarkson.

As part of the role, Mitchell will also be the senior coach of VFL affiliate Box Hill.

Contracts officially end on Saturday, Oct 31 so we should hear of those departing in the next day or two (even if we don't hear who the replacements are).

I thought all FD people had to be advised by the end of August if they were not required the following year. This was to ensure they had the best chance of getting a job  for the following year. Is this still correct ?

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
