Scully is just Neale-Bullen with a first round pick aura about him.

What a load of BS, ANB plays with his heart, god I wish he was a better kick but that pays no respect to him, and he deserves it.

Imagine being Tom Scully.

You play at 3 clubs where you're remotely never going to be welcomed back for any future player functions, or part of any 100 game club where you receive life membership at the club..

You'll always be a loner Scully.

Oh, but I guess he will always have his millions.

Adonski, it goes to show that top draft picks are best used to recruit talent and class, not work rate. By all means screen the talent for attitude, and if work rate is not there than ask why not, but then back your culture to get the most out of each recruit.

Josh Kelly is as smooth as Egyptian cotton.  But boy, he doesn't like getting his hands dirty.  It's in him to get a hard ball, but right now he's a seagull.  He better pull his finger out or he'll quickly become another overrated player.  There's no press about him, but he should be dominating games and he's presently not much more than a rich man's Scully.

I thought Josh Kelly was going to be the best player in the competition. I’m not sure what has happened to him but he has gone backwards big time.

Signed a mega million $ contract.

With his and all the talent around him he should be starring.  But like many of his teammates, they know they are good and think it will just happen without the hard work...

...recipe for a lot of unfulfilled careers.

Roos' original preference for Billings over Kelly may turn out to be the right call.

That's a bit personal. To quote Justin Bieber, "Who cares who the haters hate".

I get the impression that Max isn't the type to measure happiness and sucess in life in $.

I will take your word for it. I could handle being an average player who got paid $ millions. I would sleep well ever night.

So true.

Maybe hawthorn could have done with some fat, unfit players like Petracca today.

I remember this dude awful exploitation by some Hawthorn lowlifes

Big Philly Scully Would have been quicker.

Just look at what others from the '09 draft class have gone on to do. Scully is destined to fade into obscurity.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
