Lever left Adelaide to sign a lucrative contract with Melbourne in the wake of the Crows’ defeat to Richmond in the 2017 grand final.

But Ricciuto believes the club has never had regrets over agreeing to trade the defender to the Dees.

“Jake Lever got a five-year deal on $800,000 to $850,000 (per season), very comfortable that we let him go on that money,” he said on Triple M radio.

“He’s probably a $500,000 player.”

Lever needs to start earning that money, the $500k isn’t far off what he has produced for us.

$800-$850k is for a superstar, we’re paying that to 2 defenders.  Plus We don’t have dominate forward to help us win games.

There are guys at his club that would walk over hot coals for that sort of coin. Or maybe not.

He’s right. Lever is not worth 800k. We overpaid massively. His next contract won’t be half that.

and two 1st round draft picks for Lever...

I can live with the money although five years was perhaps excessive but the draft picks....grrrr

Much the same can be said about May

Anyway ... we will know the answers by seasons end

Lever, Pick 37 and Pick 47.

FOR

Pick 10 (2017), pick 19 (2018) and Pick 59 (2018)

So, it ended up being...

Jack Lever, Harrison Petty and Matthew Parker (StKilda)

FOR

Lochie O'brien (Carlton), Liam Stocker (Carlton) and Brett Bewley (Fremantle).

Looks fine to me.

I think that is why he did it.

I reckon Roo wants to ensure the crows finish below the Blues and the Dees.

Leaver is a smart footballer in his prime, a safe pair of hands. We generally over pay and lose out on trades. May is a worse example. We gave up pick 6 for him as well. Over priced and a really dumb footballer. At his age not much future, I would rather develop other younger players. We have a few of not very good return on investment, Like Pruess, Vandenberg and Kolodjashnij

Wasn't Lever nearly BOG when we smashed the Crows in the Alice by 90 pts?

Mark?

May a “really dumb footballer”. Really? HUGE get for us IMHO. Any other club in the comp would take him in a heartbeat.

They are not necessarily who we would have picked.  Or we may have traded one.?

Pretty average comment whether it true or not. I think we need to judge Lever after a full season. Sample size is to small at the moment.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
