Quite seriously I donโ€™t know why anyone in the middle of their career would go to Geelong. They are at the edge of a cliff. I get being close to 30 and wanting a quick shot at success. But Gus would be waaaay better off going to Carlton or Freo and pushing for success for a long time to come.ย
ย

But he would be best off staying in Melbourne where he bloody well belongs.ย

I think Gus was keen to play more midfield minutes and assumed that had to be somewhere else - but then saw what Jack Viney delivered on Thursday night and thought โ€˜Actually, I donโ€™t want to play against that. Sign me up!โ€™

He is also one head clash away from retirement. Chances of said head knock dramatically increase in the middle given the way he plays. I think he is enjoying his role at half back / wing. He is a genuine midfield utility and can play across 3-4 different positions.ย

ย

There is a rumour about to be released that Gus will announce his Re-signing with the MFC on the Gus and Gawny podcast either this week, next week or the week after.ย
lโ€™ve got no further info on Jacko, other than to restate that OD has said he is definitely going - so put your money on Jacko to stay.

LOL!ย  Yes, facing Viney, Oliver and Petracca in their prime is the stuff of nightmares so Gus should stay (which I think he will).

It would be SO Gus to announce he's staying on the podcast.ย

ย

Well the podcast linstenership just quadrupled for the next 3 weeks - no hope in hell itโ€™ll be before then now!!!ย

Lol... who is "releasing" this rumour?

Max would be disappointed if he did not get the exclusive first

No news on this weekโ€™s podcast unfortunately on the contract, Sticks Brayshaw did get a hole in one at Royal Melbourne last week though.ย

Gus has previously said he'd break the news on the podcast.ย

I'm sure he wouldn't if he left, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's announced he's re-signed on the pod

Which hole, which course ๐ŸŒ๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธโ›ณ๏ธ

Whenever I watch Gus n Gawny I'm convinced that Gus will stay. He's so emotionally invested in the club, and Goody seems to understand what he means to the club.ย

Could we change the headline by adding " and Luke Jackson has just re signed with the Dees for the next 7 years"

Why would he? Performance means nothing when you're cruising on a 6 year deal on big money.

Happy times

He had stringer contained and then moved to cover others. He wasnโ€™t the problems todayย

Did a fine job on Stringer early, potting performances like his today is splitting hairs.

Thumbs down on the coaching stuff for not throwing him into the middle later on.

He's been a bit underwhelming but reckon Rivers start to the season has cost Gus some of his disposals

ย

Agree. If we had 5 players that were ok v bombers, Gus could put his hand up. He contained Stringer and did his role across half back. ย Serviceable.
He suddenly seems a liitle slower across the ground and likes little 15 metres short passes only. ย Coaches also have forgotten that he can go into the midfield. ย

Iโ€™m surprised that people are surprised that our coaches donโ€™t or are very slow at pulling new positionalย changes during the game.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

The Dogs reigned supreme in 2018 with an inaugural AFLW premiership cup and the Demons matched this feat by winning the cup as the Season 7 2022 champions.Meggs wasnโ€™t born when the Doggies won their first VFL premiership cup against the Demons in 1954. Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals. ย

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturdayโ€™s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFLโ€™s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterdayโ€™s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown andย  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
