Half guessing, half already official....

IN: Bennell, Rivers, Jackson, Jones, Salem
OUT: Spargo, Brown, OMac, Lockhart, Bedford

I’d expect to see Hibberd out instead of OMac. Very similar types of players.

Really excited for the footy now, I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep the Friday night! I’m a little surprised at Jackson’s debut, there’s been little talk of him and I still don’t know what role they’ve settled for him at this stage. Still Carlton is probably a good team for him to get this first game against with no clear top line ruckman.

You’d imagine he’ll replace Brown, what does that mean for Weiderman if so? Another option is we sacrifice a taller body down back in OMac (which appears to be what a lot of people want) and we go with Weids and TMac as our two key forwards and Jackson moves into a more midfield/floater/ruckman role.

Interesting confirmation that Jackson, Rivers and Bennell will play and that it also looks like Smith will be there also. With those players in the team there is a huge amount of conjecture on the structure of the rest of the team.

Will Jones and Salem both get back after being unavailable for R1? Will either of Omac or Hibberd get selected? What sort of structure will our forward line have?

I can imagine that these and other questions will need to be addressed by the Blues Selectors.

It will be interesting to see how they line up.

About time we got totally RUTHLESS

Quite a few.. Gifted games.... But no more... that means quite a lot of NQR will only get games if players are injured!

No longer can the likes of Oscar. ANB, Spargo, Hunt, Petty, and others be gifted games

About bloody time!

Have I missed something about Lever?  Is there some doubt as to his availability?

If you go to the Club website and look at the FIFA Players Tournament - Lever Vs Salem you will see Lever with a bag of ice on his knee. I'm assuming they will wait to see if it has settled down. He could've just had a knock on it.

According to Luke Jackson’s Instagram, Smith will be playing. His post liked by Smith, so I would say it’s a safe bet

Yeah absolutely could be. Wouldn't think Hibberd is beyond dropping. Not sure if it was here, but did read somewhere he was looking great in training though. Definitely a different backline if all of Rivers, Salem and Smith come in. Personally, I wouldn't think we'd be play May, Lever, OMac and Smith, so for mine OMac goes out mostly due to pace given the shorter quarters and quick track.

This has got me up and about too tbh. Sparked my interest back all of a sudden. IMO Jackson will mostly play forward, wouldn't think Gawn would need much relief, unless he goes forward more often.

Really feel for Weid. Started a bit behind in his draft year due to injury, got really badly timed injuries along the way and now they're seemingly using him as a ruck option when he desperately needs forward confidence, and there's no VFL.

I think we'll play 2 key forwards, TMac and Jackson, and rely on the mid sized forwards like Fritsch, Melksham, Petracca and Jones to kick a few with Pickett, ANB and Viney hopefully adding some scores from pressure.

But geez, it's months since a game so it's pretty hard to have a solid idea.

I can see May, Lever, Omac and Smith play as Lever is not really a big as such. As Gawn said in the zoom members q&a tonight he's a specialist intercept player, like McGovern and won't directly take a big.  May will but again as Gawn noted he likes to play off his man a bit too. That leaves Omac to man up Cassboult

I really rate Smith. Super pleased he is back.

I reckon Hibberd comes out, with Smith and Rivers playing across half back and Smith also being an intercept player who uses his leap to spoil packs.

I see your point though about team leaving Omac out due to pace given the shorter quarters and quick track. The may think we have their forwards covered and want to be more attacking. But even f he does get dropped i reckon Hibberd will still come out.

Agree. Exciting times for us old Dee supporters with Kossie, Langdon, Tomlinson now Jackson, Rivers, Bennell and maybe Smith coming in looks good for our future. Bring on Saturday. Will be in loungeroom up here in Qld in 25 degree warmth with plenty of VB's.

Good changes as the extended period gave the opportunity for other places to compete for a spot whihc would have normally happened without the break.

Best of luck to Bennell, its feel when the "The Ox" came back from the knee injuries as we. didn't know which way it would go. Let the footy gods finally smile on him.

2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. He showed great resilience in coming back from a nasty rib injury and is expected to continue in that role for another couple of seasons. 2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025. The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best.
