McCartin reckons he has overcome his concussion issues and is looking for another chance. Wants to resume with St Kilda, but with the season up in the air, would you punt on him if an opportunity opens up in some form of mid-season draft.

We are lacking a KPF. There is no way TMac is getting back to his best. Steven May would be a better forward candidate atm.

Anyhoo, would ya?

I’d entertain the idea. Back in the 2014 draft I was hoping the Saints would choose Petracca or Brayshaw and therefore allowing us to take McCartin. Had a gut feel he’d be a champion forward. Has been crueled by injury.

We also need to bolster our forward line and Paddy could be an option. A far better marking option than Weid.

We don’t have a good forward line and we can’t rely on Melksham and Fritsch to kick 8 between them every week. They were both disappointing in round 1 as they only contributed 1 between them against WC. However, they will be much better against lesser teams and lesser defenders.

As for T Mac, we all bagged him after round 1 but he still managed 2 goals on the back of a poor performance against pretty much the best side in the league. That suggests to me that he would’ve been on track for a solid 50 goal year if the season went 22 games. To T Mac’s credit he’s a very accurate shot for goal and makes the most of his chances unlike many other forwards around the league.

With KK and Bennell on the list...

No, we can't afford to carry another.

Surely it's not worth the risk for Paddy. I'm no expert but the effects of another concussion for the poor guy would be disastrous.

not to mention Smith and AVB.

I wish them all including McCartin the best

Well, surprise surprise.

A constantly injured footy player without a job declares himself over his injury problems and ready to go.

Sounds legit.

Hard pass.

Weid, Brown and Tmac. Not exactly set the world on fire (for us or Bombers), I wouldn’t have an issue with it. Is it too many injury concerns on the list, potentially but he is further along in development than say a Bradtke.

i'd have to say its a pass from me.

I think he can be a good player, but like others have said we have too many injury plagued players on the list as it is. and besides I reckon we could have T.Lockett playing down forward and we'd struggle get 40 goals out of him a year with our dodgy forward structures and poor kicking going inside F50.

I think a high quality KPF is our last gap atm, but I don’t think it’s Paddy.

Hopefully for him he gets healthy, back to playing consistently, and to a high level.

It depends on how the Weid travels if he has a good year then we don't need Paddy but if he continues to struggle I would grab Paddy.

Look i wish him all the best, but im going to have to pass. I think his confidence and fitness are major issues coming back into the fold.

He's simply missed to much football to be considered for the MFC.

To be fair, Plugger is many, many years past his prime.

Definately amd emphatically NOT

We already have one with KK, Do we want to take a very risky and already life comprimised player into the fold?? Nup!

I can’t remember him doing anything to suggest he could play the game anyway without the other issues.
Also I thought St Kilda said that they’d have a spot for him if he got things worked out? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Yes they did say that, but I doubt very much that he will play again.

Firstly, I wish the rules had been changed so players with long-term concussion weren't delisted but put on some sort of temporary long-term injury list. That is, they still stay conected with their club but they don't count as a number for list purposes.

That being said, when AFL returns in 2021 it's going to look very different. With expectations of reduced list sizes, I can't see why we would wish to add a perenially injured player to our list.

Agree. Also not writing Weid off.

Would prefer what we have, than take a punt on a fragile Paddy.

Highly doubt he is over his concussion issues, though I'm not a doctor.

Especially with list sizes set to reduce over the next couple of years

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
