With no crowd to make a noise it is amazing the things you hear.

The sound of boots near the boundary

The players calling "BALL"

The sound of boot kicking the footy

The umpire exhaling as he bounces the footy.

Feel free to add yours

Traditional values, suburban footy, the game of the people, except there are no people!

The sound of people scratching their heads trying to work out why the AFL persist with this match up as the first game of the season

Yeah, what's with that? Carlton persistently treated as royalty, when in reality they're basically only Harry and that American lady.

It was quite interesting. Nice to have a sporting event without being drowned out with music like the big bash.

Just wait until next week when the AFL realise that the game is missing that tacky and crass element and they need to do cheapen things up a bit.

The missus reckons I‘ve said “[censored] this [censored]...I hate both these [censored] teams”, early in the first quarter for the past 4 years..

The rain... sounded like polite applause.

If you've ever used the now non-existent AFL Sports Ears, you'd have had the pleasure of hearing many interesting things through the mic.

My personal favourite was Razor Ray hoicking (sp?) up and spitting out phlegm almost every time he was about to do a centre bounce.

~ RIGHT INTO MY EAR ~

While I didn't bother watching the game last night, because Melbourne wasn't playing, I am appreciative that we have footy to watch. Glad the AFL and Clubs are doing what they can to make it work under the circumstances.

Commentators breaking wind?

Remember how we used to cough loudly to cover up the sound of us breaking wind?  Now it's the other way around.

What are the odds of the Weagles running a crowd sound track during our game.  Pre-Recorded "BALLLLLL!" everytime we get near the footy.

For me the game really lacked atmosphere and it took away from the viewing. Especially when Carlton was mounting a comeback.

While I'm so happy we can still watch footy, and while I'm looking forward to our game on Sunday, there is no doubt that the crowd and the involvement of the fans is what makes our game so special.

...hmm, not that in six months time no one will be able to go to a game....

The absence of opposition fans baying for tiggy-touch free kicks was refreshing.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed watching last night's game, which possibly reflects my preference for high-level skills, athleticism and game plans over crowd atmosphere.  Mind you, I was bored after 3 quarters of Richmond getting away with slapping the ball upwards (against the rules back in the day) and their flukey goal kicking.

always enjoyed watching behind closed door soccer games for this very reason, it's interesting hearing the players communicate with each other.

Reckon they'll eventually add some sort of noise on the broadcast tho

Haven’t seen any video - are players still spitting onto the ground?

yuk

Why wouldn't they?

You never got a gobfull of slag during a game of footy?

Disgusting yes, but a part of high intensity sport.

Didnt listen to radio coverage.

Did they use canned sound?

  • AFLW REPORT: Western Bulldogs

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
