Does anyone know what the logic is behind shortening the Quarters??  I'm a little baffled by that one!  Really can't think of any reason for it.  Can anyone here shed any light??

They may have to play mid week games to counter the inevitable closure.

According to the injury update Jones isn't a certainty, has an Achilles issue.

No Jones or Salem according to this tweet.

I expect sometime over the weekend, the AFL will re-release the fixture for the first 6 rounds and it will fit in say 4 weeks.  The peak of this virus is expected to be 2 or 3 months away and they want to get as many rounds in before they have an extended break.

My intel is Eagles internal research is the crowd umps ground etc is on average a 5 goal head start

Or in the case of a Preliminary final 10 goals...

Super excited for Bedford. Has clearly had a big preseason and made a big step up from last year. Looked excellent in the Marsh games and really added something to the forwardline.

I suppose that's about as logical as you can get.  Gotta admit, though, that if that's the reason, I really question how useful it will be...

Let's say they played 10 minute quarters - would that make a difference to recovery?  Let's say they played 40 minute quarters - how about that?

There's clearly some point that the duration of the quarters makes a difference and that has to be balanced with the spectacle as a match.  They've gone for 16 minutes which sounds like a good compromise to me.

How awesome is it that we went from zero small forwards last year to now having Kozzi and Bedford debuting in round 1?

And  they are two exciting indigenous talents as well .  Lets go Demons!

I just wonder about the mental demons that come into play when you have to get on a plane in this crisis.

The players have to be having some subconscious thoughts.

I hope it doesn't effect game time but I fear it will.

Young Jackson misses selection however he will be chomping at the bit to be playing soon for the red and the blue. Ready but has to wait his turn. Congrats to Kossy and Toby i am sure you will do us proud.

I cannot wait for the crowd to scream there lungs out at the bounce of the ball. It will be deafening!

Should be a rather different looking 22 than what we were putting on the park last year.

That's pretty exciting on its own.

Take the time out to feel for Bedford and Picketts family who unfortunately won't be there live to watch their kids debut. Years of sacrifices they've had to make and unfortunately not their to see the fruits of their labour.

I don't think there is a ban on clubs inviting a couple of family members along.  As guests, they could sit with club officials ie non-football staff.

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
