i believe this was looked at.

there was quite some discussion of redeveloping this area from olympic boulevard to the mcg. It involved building over the railway lines completely and rebuilding richmond station etc. There was talk about the mfc then being part of this development

in the end i think it just got so grandiose and expensive it was put on the back burner and shelved

Eddie McGuire is definitely a crafty one. They don't call him Eddie "Everywhere" for nothing.

I recall we had the opportunity to move to the Olympic Park precinct before even Collingwood wormed their way in there. I think it was when Joseph Gutnick was still Melbourne Football Club President in the early 2000s? We certainly stuffed it up back then. Anyway, that's in the past now.

Let's hope Kate Roffey is on the ball and gets this training base for the Demons sorted out and we have some further good news about all of this at the next Melbourne Football Club AGM whenever that will be?

It will be a government announcement not so much a MFC announcement

Thought I read somewhere that the trees will be removed and replanted (new trees) to be put in around the resized oval.

very novel idea!!!

Are the current trees non- indigenous elms?  If so I would have thought that the woke Melbourne City Council and all the local Greenies would support their removal and replacement with local indigenous ones, which could be placed around the expanded oval.

We had the first opportunity I believe but couldn't come up with the $15m.

Harsh to blame Eddie

We also couldn't afford the ongoing cost of upkeep, we have been a basket case financially for years.

Yes, l think the timing is right for grandiose public building announcements, as the state government is looking around for public infrastructure spends post COVID. What better than to spend up big on Australia’s favourite hobby AND religion - AFL Football in Australia’s favourite sporting precinct.

Fair play to Eddie for taking over the Glasshouse, it was unused and we couldn't get it done.

The takeover of Olympic Park after their training oval was used for the AAMI park site and the booting of athletes down to Lakeside is a different story. They didn't want to keep walking to Gosch's and demanded the oval and the long history of athletics at Olympic Park was ended.

But it allowed us to use the oval at Gosch's which now has 2 premierships. Maybe it should be called Gary Pert Oval?

No. I didn’t see that. Was still engrossed with AFL GF matters - actually still am. ❤️💙

But it could form a serious part of our pitch the slightly enlarge the ground, and additionally improve climate resilience…

It's just over 12 months to the next Victorian State election. I fully expect a Richmond Station renewal project to be announced as a policy initiative of one or both major parties before then. Just like a very fast train proposal gets raised before every Federal election.

And then nothing happens.

Bingo...

We’ll be spoilt for choice in the next federal election won’t we. The incompetence of Albanese, or the arrogance of Morrison.

Don’t get me started on the state election. Matthew Guy’s a nut and seems to love getting polaxed in elections, or the most corrupt premier in this country’s history.

We’re really spoilt for choice in politics at the minute.

While not necessarily disagreeing with the fact that we struggled financially from say 1990's through to about 2015 The ability to come up with $15 mill. Almost on the spot would have ruled out about more than half at that time inc. Tigers Saints Roos Dogs Cats Blues and possibly Hawks depending upon the specific date it was required.

We must not allow our current and stable off field position financially to  be frittered away. A Power Club ranking awaits us if we are sensible and successful in the next 5/10 years on and off field.

I personally think the "empty land" is the best location for the home base.

It is the closest spot to the soon to be redeveloped Gosch's oval and it faces a main road which is excellent for marketing. All we need is a small footbridge over the exit ramp to connect the oval from the empty land.

The issue with Car Park F is that it doesn't face a road and is still a couple hundred metres from the oval. In saying that however, Car Park F still much better than Car Park E

Thinking of the empty land, just imagine driving up Punt Road from the south....

I'm high on the hill looking over the bridge,
To the MCG.
And way up on high, across from the silo
Is the home of the Dees.

I'm dreaming today,
Of Steven May
All the burning dreams.
I'm not hearing a sound,
My feet don't even touch the ground

Winston Churchill once said that: “democracy is the worst form of government – except for all the others that have been tried.”

NB Could also live in China where their head-honcho is about to be 'elected' to a lifetime gig - presumably so he and his hangers-on won't be purged at some later date.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50.
