Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Good game

KC got the benefit of two close decisions which could have gone either way.

The half time entertainment was woeful. While the singers may be  very good their choice of songs and the over production using dancers left a lot to be desired.

I was on KC but have to say their uniforms just don't seem to work for me. Agree re half time I went outside and did a bit of work half way through.

The TD at the pylon would be one, what was the other?

OPI before the half was suspect, let that one play in playoff football. Chiefs had a couple of sneaky holds as well.

But at the end of the day they 49ers had plenty of chances to sustain a game winning drive when they had the lead and couldn’t. Either too much faith in Jimmy G or they couldn’t protect him and let Jones get pressure and deflect passes up the middle

Yeah that could have gone either way, I think it was more Kittles strength and th3 fact it made his arm extend fully. I can see why they called it, but it could have easily not been called.

Damn right, about time a USA team won the Super Bowl.

Actually, the point here was that Kansas City is in Missouri... not Kansas.

But is classified officially as Kansas City Missouri; something one would think that the President of the country should probably know.

Hey this is a bit off to the side but around the 3rd quarter just as a time out was called I swear the music in the stadium was Church’s Under a Milky Way? Unfortunately Channel 7 cut to an advert break as soon as. Anybody else hear that?

That was a TD ... correct decision.  The new interpretation allows for the onfield decision to stand if it's a line-ball call.

Again, another correct decision

Kittles pushed off twice and that is Offensive pass interference every day of the week.  He might have been able to catch the ball without pushing off so in effect,  he cost his side dearly.  Did he even need to do it considering his skill set?

KC won fair & square and the refs had zero influence on the result.  The 49ers had every chance and couldn't nail down the win.

Why would you win the toss and defer and let the other team choose?

A Belichick move. If you get the ball to end the first half, get the ball to start the second half. Potential to get 14 pts up on your opponent and deprive the opposition offence from touching the ball for 45-60 minutes.

Jimmy G had the ball with 2.30 left on the clock and 3 timeouts plus the 2 minute warning. Had the opportunity for a superbowl winning drive if he was good enough. He wasn't. A better QB would have hit that long pass on 3rd and 10 on the dime and gave them 4 shots at the end zone.

Yep,  and as DS mentioned Gonzo,  how many teams score from the opening drive of a match? Especially in a SB.

And if people here feel uninspired by Goodwin's press conferences,  they should try sitting through 10 minutes of a Belichick presser!

And it can be argued that Belichick is the best ever coach in any sport,  all time.

Definitely. I hate the Pats but respect the hell out of Belichick. The time and preparation he's put into his craft is second to none.  As a Jets supporter I wonder what could have been had he remained as coach of the Jets for more than one day. Would he still have succeeded or was it only the right environment and combination of factors that produced it. Similar to Clarkson at Hawthorn, would he have been as successful if he'd gone to Richmond in 2004? Or Melbourne? Gotta have the off field right to let the on field do it's thing.

It's funny, reading gridiron genius by Mike Lombardi recently, he made a comment that it's best to defer especially on the road. The rationale being the crowd is loudest for the 1st drive of the game which can impact the offences communication. After half time many people are still making their way back to their seats, in the bars, toilets etc so crowd is much quieter. Same could be said for the superbowl.

Agree with all that and it's still quite funny that Belichick was the Jets coach for 1 day only.  Only at the Jets?

Of course,  there's a back story to it but 1 day? lol.

Heh Macca, You seem quite knowledgeable with the rules, is there one regarding helmet to helmet tackling on the QB?

There is now (helmet to helmet ruling) but Running backs often still charge head first and as a result can often make contact with defenders helmets by default ... but they don't often get penalised (from what I see)

But a defender can't use his helmet (as a weapon) on a wide receiver,  tight end,  running back or a Quarterback.  But again,  they don't always call it.  Not yet anyway,  DW.

And up until a couple/few years ago it was open slather and getting completely out of control ... and the class action against the NFL over concussions was happening at the same time.

Thus,  the new ruling.  But there is still a ways to go to stamp out helmet to helmet contact.  At junior level there is now a 'Heads up' way of playing the sport.

But again,  they don't always call helmet to helmet contact in the NFL and offensive players very rarely get called for using their helmet as a weapon.  The ruling isn't consistent but the sport is cleaner now.  Mind you,  it's still quite barbaric in its own way.

And the fans love it that way

Me - I don't want to watch dirty tactics.  The sport (NFL) is still extremely tough to play as it is.

A bit like footy where thuggish behavior has been stamped out and the sport is way better off because of it.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
