Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

The Wizard’s 2nd Half 9 Goal Haul

A great interview with Robbo who has been underestimated as a player. Not getting an All Australian after a 73 goal year as a small forward was a travesty - all at the hands of that turncoat Gerard Healey. Mind you, he was responsible for one of the biggest brain farts I can remember - after marking in the goal square, he Played on and tried to kick the goal whilst flat on his back. Sometimes he was too much the show pony.

Close to my best football memory.

I posted the following not long after i first started posting on Demonland way back in 2011 (by the by it was in response to a fantastic post from Whispering Jack about the wiz - well worth a re read):

I will never forget the game Farmer mentioned by WJ where he kicked 9.1 (so close to perfection) in the second half against the maggies. One of my all time favourite footy watching moments, perhaps even my fav

I was sitting at the top of the Ponsford Stand (city end) and there was a magpie fan in front of me who in the first half was absolutely giving it to Farmer. All half he was bagging him whenever he went near it. His vitriol tipped over into mindless racist drivel. I think he must have thought himself quite witty as his insults were along the lines of "typical, always looking for a handout", "hoping for easy welfare" and other such rubbish. The fella was absolutely relentless and as Farmer barely got a kick in that first half he had plenty of opportunities to have a go at him.

What made it worse was he was with his son, who was probably no older than about 9 or so. It was for this reason that i elected not to say anything (and a sense that it would have been pointless and perhaps he was trying to provoke something), as there would have been some sort of confrontation and more than likely violence. That said i really i struggled throughout the first half not to say anything to him and with the tension of thinking i should.

Well Farmer answered such rubbish in the best possible way. 9 goals in a half of footy and it could have easily have been 10. Awesome. With each goal i was able to go wild for the Wiz and was able to "respond" to the dill without ever having to do so directly. I yelled out stuff like "that's it Jeff, do it all yourself, go hard", "you don't need any easy frees or handouts from the umps" etc etc.

As the Whiz lined up for his 9th at about the 15 min mark of the last this fella (having barely said a word, little lone an insult, since about half way through the 3rd quarter) slinked off, leaving his son with a mate of his (who funnily enough had not at any stage yelled out any abuse). He was a beaten man. The Whiz had seen to that. There had been no violence and perhaps his son had learnt a lesson. A great day and a great talent.

Brilliant year was 2000, after a patchy 6-7 start to the season. We played such an attractive and exciting brand of footy that year.

When your side kicks 23 goals in a prelim, you’re entitled to think you’re a genuine chance of a flag. A pity we had to play one of the most dominant, it not most dominant team of all time.

Sums up our luck and fortune post 1964.

The day after my all night 37th Birthday Party

I remember it well. Woke up just before the first bounce to eggs and bacon and Berrocca’s. We were a dam good side that year, after Carlscum thrashed us.
Pity that Essendrug were unbeatable that year after ‘99

We were sitting behind the goals at the Punt Road end. Wiz was dragged late in the first half after not getting near it, and really only came back on because Ben Beams broke his collar bone. It was as spectacular a 50 minutes of football I have ever seen, and that includes Gary Ablett Snr!! My best mate was with me, a Collingwood supporter, and in the end even he was yelling to kick it to Farmer!! He missed a relatively simple shot for his 10th.

I've never seen a player dominate 2 quarters like Trapper did in the 2nd & 3rd against the Crows in the 2002 SF, that comes pretty close for me BD.

A couple of days ago, my 10-year old asks me out of nowhere - was Jeff Farmer a good footy player?

Some 90 minutes later, the young fella learned a lesson that will carry him through the rest of his life - never ask Dad open-ended questions about former Melbourne football players.

Does any body know if we are still going to try and get Kobey (little Wiz) to the club still?

How could that thought - held for some time, now - ever become dormant? We have to get Koby. That is all there is to it; at any price. The whole Club still owes Jeff a great deal for what he produced onfield.

That year we were an exceptional team; every line, teamwork to perfection - and wasn't White's rucking superb? I still remember the Ox shepherds, holding back multiple opponents regularly to create the 'flow' and 'run-on' for our little blokes. Pin-point Yze, the McDonalds, Rigoni stretching himself, the poetry in footy motion of Leoncelli, Robbo poised to lift the team. It was something very special - and these are just the fringes of that team.

Yes. We came home strong that year. As i mentioned earlier Carlscum beat us by about 96 points i think, early rounds and i think that sparked us up.
sadly Essendrug were even more sparked up. For the entire 2nd half of the season I knew Essendrug were certainties for the Flag.
most depressing :( because we would have beaten any other team.

look at Nought in ‘99. Good luck to them, but that was one soft flag.
But we have to get better, not rely on others faults

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
