very hard to take any positives out of 2019.  Still think the club is the least proactive vic club in the afl.

Gawn, Fritsch, getting Dunkley, showing Preuss what is required and him noticing, mid and end of season reviews that have freshened up the place, acquiring Burgess and Richardson, poor year financially but not adding to our debt because of foresight by Board and CEO, Lewis on coaching panel, only minimal end of season operations, astute trading of players and picks    and we still have a month and bit to go

A problem with Demonland (and society) is that often people think down binary lines.  The OP is a classic example.

You are either a sycophant or as the OP puts it a "backstabber".

It is possible that by applying critical thinking to matters of the MFC you can appreciate some of the good things about the club and recognise the not so.

You can express an opinion and as long as it agrees with a small noisy minority on here you won't get trolled or abused from behind the anonymity of a keyboard

But you can post unfounded rumour as if it was a proven fact

You can also put the same sentiment expressed  in different ways in every thread to bore the [censored] of everybody

You can also disparage any person remotely connected with the MFC, again from behind the anonymity of a keyboard

You will never have the ability to laugh at yourself

This is the truth of a public internet forum

Are you ok man?

What are you doing on here then? Dead set honest question? If you are so concerned with the dribble you just spat out, then surely for your own sake you'd stop posting on an online forum.

Everything you just wrote down is exactly what you do on here. You do know that right?

Incapable of forming a long sentence on your own without whining?

@dazzledavey36 to try and provide some balance to the large amount of bollocks that is posted by the so called experts on hear

At least the 'persom' who ridiculed Omac at the forum, had the kahunas to do it in public, no matter how ridiculous it was

Besides which I can handle the rubbish, sometimes it is like having a battle of wits with unarmed persons though

You need to read some of your posts, the level of immaturity in the name calling is glaring

I totally disagree 100%. The positive out of 2019 was that it was so bad, the best teams come out of a really bad year and dominate the competition for years, example cats after 2006, Richmond after 2016. Bring on 2020 big year coming up.

The positive is there is no way any sane organisation could ever try to hide from a year as bad as Melbourne had in 2019.
The negative is there is no way Melbourne could ever be thought of as a sane organisation, no matter the year.

Why did I waste my time?

Ok, you got me, for you dazzle ( small d) and that great intellectual SWYL, lets go through this shall we ( that's a statement not a question).

You have both missed the sentiment of this thread haven't you? Oh, the irony!

"What a great thread" Well the intent was admirable, but then it got highjacked by exactly the people it was (I believe) supposed too hold a mirror up to ie go have along hard look at yourselves.

"Hypocrisy" everywhere. Well that's accurate is it not? Oh, I get it some of you don't understand the word.                                                  Definition; "a situation in which someone pretends to believe something that they do not really believe, or that is the opposite of what they do or say at another time". I don't think that fits Saty does it? He has been boringly consistent in his support for the Club even while occasionally asking some tough questions of it in a respectful manner.  Conversely, look up the word support or supporter definition and I see a  number of people here who are not supporting the Club/Players but are active in voicing an opinion that is derogatory, abusive and disrespectful. Tell me where does that "hypocrisy" finger really point.

It's a forum and you can express an opinion, yeah right, absolute bollocks. Sorry Saty you can express an opinion just watch out for the supporters who don't like scooter riding Poms with beards. By the way I do have a beard (not as resplendent as Saty's)

You can express an opinion and as long as it agrees with a small noisy minority on here you won't get trolled or abused from behind the anonymity of a keyboard. See above, ...... I do think small and minority is an over use of the same descriptor and in voicing your opinion Saty I would hope you stick to annoying only one group at a time. I'm starting to worry I may be targeted next. When will this Stop. (I'm a an older, white, heterosexual male but not a Pom, but I do have an opinion )

But you can post unfounded rumour as if it was a proven fact. Don't think I've ever seen Saty post a unfounded rumour, I've seen him post some things based on what he has been told and occasionally that has been incorrect. At least that has been based on something. I've seen many posts on here that are opinion based on the posters feelings/intuition and lack any connection to facts

You can also put the same sentiment expressed  in different ways in every thread to bore the [censored] of everybody. What can I say, this is so true of lot's of posters on here ... one of you is Ian aren't you!  Ok, Saty is guilty of this sometimes as well.

You can also disparage any person remotely connected with the MFC, again from behind the anonymity of a keyboard.                            This is a big one, you are really trying to point the finger at Saty for this one? Come on get serious, if your not Ian you must be his brother.

You will never have the ability to laugh at yourself. Now I don't know Saty well enough to say I've seen him laugh at himself but I think I've seen him come close. As for the rest of us I can say I have the ability to laugh at myself and will no doubt, when I read my own post tomorrow. Some of the people here will likewise remain humourless and probably clueless.

demonlanders can rightly look at positives to come out of the mid season review with lots of what looks like positive changes: Richo, Burgess, Langdon, players genuinely coming back in good nick is the biggest one for me.

likewise our most recent recollections are of a poor 2019 season where bad luck through injury was exaserbated by poor performances by coaches, fitness staff, and players

so l think its ok to be positive or negative in posts. perhaps we just need to play the ball a little more in debate and avoid subtle and not so subtle jabs at each other in the process. l don't like posts defending the club and players blindly (eg l trust the club are making the right decisions or coming across as a spokesperson for the club) but also don't like overly personal attacks on players (eg omac) and the club when we know they are trying their best but out of form, returning from injury or trying their best to reach afl standard which few of us do

I think we’ve had a (thus far) good off-season; we’ve addressed deficiencies, we’ve re-structured the FD, we’ve managed to get some very highly regarded health/fitness people, and most of the players we chased ended up at the club.

That said 2019 was an atrocious year in so many ways, it revealed some issues we had tactically, and exposed a real lack of depth. As always when it rains it pours and we had a number of other issues throughout the year that brought back the veil of negativity that Roos used to speak about.

I can understand people’s hesitation to be positive, certain players have to regain some serious form for us to be back in the 8 and beyond. It took us so long to get back to the finals and we crashed and burned big time, I think it’s easier for some to expect to fail.

Yeah baby bring it on every thing is tops man, be positive even if the trucks are 30000 over service and all the tradies are owned over $100000 in work done to keep place going, and the maintenance guy hasn't  been paid for a month. Where work is promised but not delivered, and the boss begs the workers to stay because good times are around the corner, but everyone is slowly leaving one by one.

4 pages in and no one has blamed the true culprit here.... Jack bloody Watts

it's his fault and we all know it

Two important questions for me -

1. Who is the dude from the Dolphins?

2. Is it the Frankston Dolphins or the Miami Dolphins?

No i haven’t missed the point at all of what Satyr said. That is what i was replying to

What you have written above is your opinion on the above post

Satyr loves to put the boot ? in and to be righteous at the same time

When he points this at me i return serve.

SWYL, I simply cannot fathom why you don't just put Saty on 'ignore' if he upsets you so much.

That way, you don't have to read what he has to say and we don't have to suffer your vitriolic responses.

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

And just like that, we’re Narrm again. Even though the annual AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round which commemorates the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to our game has been a welcome addition to our calendar for ten years, more lately it has been a portent of tough times ahead for we beleaguered Narrm supporters. Ever since the club broke through for its historic 2021 premiership, this has become a troubling time of the year for the club. For example, it all began when Melbourne rebranded itself as Narrm across the two rounds of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round to become the first club to adopt an Indigenous club name especially for the occasion. It won its first outing under the brand against lowly North Melbourne to go to 10 wins and no losses but not without a struggle or a major injury to  star winger Ed Langdon who broke his ribs and missed several weeks. In the following week, still as Narrm, the team’s 17 game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Dockers. That came along with more injuries, a plague that remained with them for the remainder of the season until, beset by injuries, the Dees were eliminated from the finals in straight sets. It was even worse last year, when Narrm inexplicably lowered its colours in Perth to the Waalit Marawar Eagles. Oh, the shame of it all! At least this year, if there is a corner to turn around, it has to be in the direction of something better. To that end, I produced a special pre-game chant in the local Narrm language - “nam mi:wi winnamun katjil prolin ambi ngamar thamelin amb” which roughly translated is “every heart beats true for the red and the blue.” >y belief is that if all of the Narrm faithful recite it long enough, then it might prove to be the only way to beat the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Sunday. The Lions are coming off a disappointing draw at Marvel Stadium against a North Melbourne team that lacks the ability and know how to win games (except when playing Melbourne). Brisbane are, however, a different kettle of fish at home and have very few positional weaknesses. They are a midfield powerhouse, strong in defence and have plenty of forward options, particularly their small and medium sized players, to kick a winning score this week after the sting of last week’s below par performance.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.
