risky pick 3  for a ruckman

Watch those highlights just above your post and think again.

Is it me or does those highlights when he's clucking those big marks remind anyone of when Mitch Clark was at his best for us back in 2012?

We are apparently going to train him into a key forward which excites me even more now.

Geez should have released those highlights a week ago, might have stopped the wrist slashing by some

Some of those highlights at club games are probably footage from MFC recruiters who are paid to watch players with a view to picking the best player at our available picks. All the afl.com highlights showed him kicking in the left when he is a right footer. The club highlights show good forward play which is what JT spoke about. They have put their last 12-18 months plus into this year's draft stock, so I'll back then in and am excited with both Jackson and Pickett

Risky picking a ruckman!!! You have to be kidding!!!!! Short memories here!! Ahhhh, Wattsy over Nic Nat, another stuff up. By the way Callum Twomey said on SEN that Jackson is way ahead of Grundy at the same age and is hugely talented. Taylor says he could be anything.

Also the Anonymous poll on the AFL website had 4 other clubs rating him as the player they would take at 3 with us makes 5 . 6 had young who slid to 7 so I'm happy with our pick 3 .

Welcome LJ! Hope you can become our Ben Brown type fwd clunking marks. Stafford will sort out your kicking.

He seems a serious, angry type of guy which I like

Supposedly a ruckman, but that’s a whole highlights package of contested marks. Bloody exciting!

His second efforts and follow up is awesome.

He's been playing ruck as a junior because he's 199cm. He'll be a handy pinch hitter but this kid is a genuine Key Forward. I assumed he wouldn't be ready to play a game in 2020 but judging by those highlights packages . . . I think we'll see him alright

Those with memory know my opinion on taking ruckmen early...

He looks to have something more about him that maybe he can play a role on a flank or a wing if he has the lungs.

Otherwise, see you in 2025... maybe...

Wasn't a fan of this when it was first murmured as I was very keen on Young.

Although early highlights were a touch underwhelming  I warmed to it as I knew Taylor is not silly and you could see his athleticism and heard about his growth potential. Then bang that latest highlights package hits and shows me everything I wanted to see - some big big athletic marks and a very decent kicking technique.

Very very happy with Jackson and Kozzie

Might be a bit early but this guy has the potential to be the best full forward in the game in 5 or so years IMO.

The main thing that excites me about this kid is that he’s still pretty raw to the game too.

Dam those highlights ??

Those highlights are more impressive than the clips they showed on Foxtel after his name was called

Good luck to him and I hope he does really well for us.

I am only concerned if we don’t perform he will off to the weagles as he said Peter Sumich is his mentor who he will remain in contact with and that his fav player is Nic Nat.

U can bet Sumich will be pushing for him to go to the weagles especially if we are still crap like this season.

Just like Gaff and Judd came back to Melbourne and Lukosius and Rankine back to SA. If we overlook players because they might leave us one day we might as well pack it in.

At this stage I have  it a draw . Maybe we got a little more from Wattsy.

I have no doubt that he can play.  His highlights make him look like a mad scientist got hold of NicNat and Grundy's DNA and hybridised them.  Whether that's a realistic representation of his abilities I guess we'll find out.  I still think we should have gone with Young, but I've been harping on for months about the club not taking risks and chasing guys who could have a massive payoff, so I really can't complain.

Either way, he's in the Red and Blue so I hope he absolutely kills it at AFL level and becomes a champion of our club.

Wonder what Pruess makes of this pick? We have Gawn, we have Pruess and we have a 19 year old, 203 cm, ex elite basketballer in Bradke, still learning the game but we have spent pick 3 on a 199 cm ex basketballer, turned under 18 AFL ruckman who can go forward occasionally! This kid better have some serious talent  as a key forward and show it early next season to vindicate this decision, because we don’t desperately need a Max replacement for another 3 or 4 years.

First post in a while.

I'll be honest and say, I was never into Jackson at 3, in fact I was hoping all the way up until tonight that we wouldn't call his name. A WA ruckman at 3? Surely not!

But alas it was, and now is time to take the glass half full approach. The updated highlights video was extremely well timed.

He ain't no dinosaur ruckman. The guy looks like an incredible prospect really,  a modern-day prototype. 200cm tall and incredibly nimble. Can mark overhead and he doesn't look like a complete unco when he kicks. How many rucks can kick off their left peg? I can't recall any.

I'm confident that Jackson can be a very good AFL player, just hope he can hang around in Victoria longer than Hogan and the Wiz did.

His ball drop is quick, he seems natural with his kicking, i was worried we had a baby giraffe. I'm on board. Having a few talls won't hurt.

The fluidity of the his movement is nuts from a bloke his size. Looks to have good decision making and composure to. A genuine tall midfielder as well as a ruckman judging by those highlights.

Who cares what Preuss thinks? If Preuss demands selection he'll get it if not he'll be off to another club or have a short career. Balls in his court.

Same with Weideman. Positions won't be handed out, you're gonna have to earn it.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
