It is a small sample size so you would be crazy to draw conclusions this early but not all 19yo key forwards kick a lot of goals, fewer also play well in the ruck. LJ has huge potential. I have seen no proof that he will not make a forward, particularly when he spends so much time on the ball. 

 

PS:  Dr D  you seem to confuse proof with opinion. You provide no proof and I disagree with your opinion.

I must say that I was shocked when searching for goal assists stats to find that LJ is listed as just one ??

I guess it may be a matter of definition but I recall him being involved as the last chain in a goal score at least a handful of occasions this year.

Sure may not be a classic forward, but his deep forward pressure and being not outmarked by defenders makes him a valuable forward contributor in my mind.

The, plus his ability to release Max to defend or attack makes him a very valuable player.

 Ok so he blew the whistle for a free.  The ump could have easily given that a mark it was a clear grab.  Free kick must get priority.

From the moment I saw jackson playing for wa under 18 national champs I new he was going to be a gun, absolutely stood out like a becon. He would go up in the ruck win the tap and then rove his own ruckwork, he just has such great athleticism and competitiveness with a touch of flair, poise and mongrel.

Early call i know, but imo he could deadset become the best ruckman and the best full forward in the game. 

Jackson,  kossie and rivers will go down as a absolute master draft for the dees and Jason taylor

Yes it does, and always has. Plus, there is no play-on advantage from a mark. Only from a free kick. As soon as you notice the umpire has blown the whistle, but has allowed the advantage, you know for certain the whistle was for a free kick.

The liberty that Jackson has allowed for Gawn is one of the reasons I'm not too anxious about the Riewoldt/Lynch double this weekend. Even more so when presumably we will have some more tall target strength up forward when one of Brown or Weid come in. Gawn will be less needed to fill holes and more able to choose where he is most useful, and may even have the luxury of not running up both ends of the ground so much.

Nankervis is a respectable ruckman but he's got no chance of covering the ground against Gawn alone, nevermind with Jackson running around out there as well. With Richmond smart enough (and Nank humble enough) to be able to work from sharking Gawn's taps, Jackson's time actually as a ruckman could be significant.

I also feel like Jackson might be given slightly fewer total minutes on the ground.  Get the most of his agility and energy by keeping him fresher and also it is just a good idea to not overcook young players.

Poor Nankervis. A day spent lined up against either the fittest ruckman in the game or a agile, intuitive follow-through kid fresh from the bench.

I have seen him at training in match simulations playing forward and taking some great contested marks.I believe he has all the attributes to become a really dangerous forward. Again ,he is just 19 ?

Will we see the key being nullification pre/ post our ruck dominance. That means posters above are spot on. However Hardwicke is a master craftsman on fending, obstructing, tripping and blocking, initially from ball bounce to exit possession of centre. Shut down footy, enter Dusty.

I think a couple of players that you could do comparisons to, are Bontempelli and Adam Goodes. Both are tall, athletic utilities who can play ruck, forward or midfield. Both are/were superstars. Goodes became more a forward towards the end of his career but was used in a variety of positions as the team needed. Bont is similar, not as much a ruck but has taken many ruck taps in the forward line. Bontempelli is only developing now into a very dangerous forward.

Both players are premiership players.

I think Jackson has the same scope as these two players and definitely the potential to become a superstar and play wherever the team needs.
