I'm having a little trouble understanding where the talk of Murray's poor ball usage is coming from.  A very quick search uncovers the following (http://aflnswact.com.au/sam-murray-rising-star/):

"Murray excelled following a move to the backline in 2017 displaying excellent kicking skills, earning him a place in the 2017 NEAFL Team of the Year after averaging 22 possessions, six score involvements, six intercept possessions and 3.5 inside 50s."

"Earning a call up to Collingwood’s senior side after a strong pre-season, Murray has proven to be a dangerous ball magnet averaging 20 possessions across his three games with Collingwood and gathering 21 disposals with an 81 per cent disposal efficiency in his sides’ 24-point win over Carlton at the MCG."

Sure his clanger "score" is pretty high, but that's not overly surprising considering he had just 13 games at the Pies; that is likely to lessen as he gains more experience.  And, correct me if I'm wrong, I'm pretty sure the clanger count is not solely related to disposals.

You can understand why, with the Pies cap-squeeze, they've decided not to persevere with Murray. They have many of his type on their list, but he'd be a handy acquisition for us. He's another that would release Salem to play further up the field, but also give us some handy rebound and run and carry from defence, without absolute brainfades (ala Frost).

Yep agree with all of the above. Also seems a super tough competitor. Definitely reminds me of Hibberd. He's got the aggression and attack on the ball with a bit of dash and confidence when he wins it. Would be another great signing.

Langdon, Tomlinson, Murray, Bennell and picks 3 and 8. Gave up very little in return for quality and potential.

Starting to look like more then a solid off season of recruiting.

Sorry if it's been mentioned in here but how much of a salary do you think he'd be commanding all things considered.

It would have to be on the lower end given his indiscretions.

For me it is watching him live / online videos. Generally he is running full speed and trying to kick it 40m to a pack or 1 on 1 - it is up and under and generally in the right area but not on the chest. I don’t recall any footage of him stopping and kicking a stab pass or hitting a guy on the lead. Then again - those sorts of plays don’t really cut it as highlights when you can burst away from 5 blokes and send it 40m.

Happy to have him in the red and blue.

Having coached a lot of juniors you need to woek hard on getting the quick kids to change gears.

Teach them to use the speed to get clear, and drop back a gear before kicking.

13 games in to an AFL career, I don't see this as necessarily a fatal flaw.  I am keen if he passes due diligence.

If Richmond have expressed an interest in him, we should go at him like a bull at a gate.

While he’s probably not ultimately a Marlon Picket or a Sydney Stack, he certainly possesses some attributes which we need and which could come very cheaply.

Given that we’re taking picks 3 and 8 to the draft, and we’ve already landed Langdon and Tomlinson during this trade period, using pick 97ish on a bloke like this seems a no brainer.

DFA... should be free, as I understand it.

There's a couple of hit up passes in this footage. He's a decent kick, but sometimes rushes his disposal when he's at full pelt.

Not sure if I'm more or less enthused after watching that. Certainly got pace which is good, but his disposal looks a bit too much like we already have plenty of.

He'll be the frost type for us but much much better with the footy. This off season is shaping up perfectly. The best thing about it is that it shows the club is absolutely confident 2019 was a legitimate aberration and that we believe with some added, targeted pace (and a fit list) we can definitely win it in 2020

Starting to feel pretty good about next year

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
