Footballer's pay and your average punter's pay are never valid comparisons.

So $450k + for 4 years.

Sheeittttt!!!

They just need to get better jobs that pay more. Stop leaning, start lifting. How else will you get a go if you don't give a go.

I would offer him 450 with incentives and any way you cut it 450 for 3 to four years makes him a Millionare with the rest of his life to do something else!! Pretty good Coin I would have thought. Us normal wage earners would LOVE a $ 100.000 Windfall just once in a lifetime.

Makes you think doesn't it??

Id pay him about that Plus incentives!

$400-450k would put him in the top one third salary wise based on published 2017 figures.

Hard decision if you are managing the salary cap. My guess is we could offer that for 2 years but a four year deal for a player with questionable upside would be a risk.
I'd be disappointed to lose him but I just don't see his worth at those figures. (My bigger issue would be a four year term.) IIRC he spent some time of 2018 playing for Casey. Nothing wrong with that but it puts his long term form in some perspective.

Good luck to him. At age 26 this contract is traditionally the most important for many players.

So we are loosing our best defender from 2019 who played every week and was basically the only defender who many would consider "quick"

Bloody t to hope Lever & May can get on the park of Mahoney has really screwed the pooch (again!)

They weren't laughing after the final last year or when we beat them this year. Cost them a place in the finals!

I'd be more than happy for Frosty to stay. Improved a great deal this year.

I'll grant you he is quick and that is his major asset. I reckon May is surprisingly quick but be that as it may (pardon the pun) speed is useful but not vital as a defender.

An ability to read the play, read the flight of the ball, defend on on one and reliably hit targets are more important strengths. Unfortunately Frosty is not particularly good at any of these skills.

At the risk of a strange mixed metaphor, the Hawks are our bunny.

If a good coach got hold of him ( hopefully ) in our system and set us up with Frost, Lever and May as the three talls I think it would work well. He has really developed his punch and has good closing speed. He has also become much more reliable. He has learnt this year to leave his opponent and help be the third man up as well. He had very good results against some very good footballers.

He has had one and a half years in the senior team where he has gone way past Oscar and can be rightfully proud of this years output. Apart from his on-field dust up with May I think he understands better how we want him to play and for us there is an upside as he can develop further with confidence as a regular team member.

If he goes elsewhere it will take him a while to settle in as he is unpredictable and will spook his new teammates at times. Much better for Frost if he stays, much better for us if he stays.

Frost should have been used as a winger in 2020. Elite speed and taking the game on, with the added bonus of being a good down the line bail out option . . . It's not like we need speed outside or anything . . . We don't know how to use our weapons and frost could be a genuine threat wing and pushing forward

Absolutely our loss and more so when you see how he'll end uo being used elsewhere

You need great endurance to play on the wing. Frost doesn't have it. It's improved but more in the below average category.

after they beat us up every time for about 8-9 years, I’d hardly start to think about bragging rights

I can’t see him playing as a wingman.  I agree we need the outside speed but Frost is the last bloke we want kicking to our forwards.  One of our biggest issues is hitting a forward target and Frost doesn’t have the foot skills to help this.

Frost doesn't have the tank - or anything like it - to play wing.

Well documented.

Don't think he has the brains, either.

You think his tank is worse than Lewis and Jones, who Goody tried in a big game at the G?

I understand Sam had a good year, but players of his limited ability are not the difference between winning a premiership or the wooden spoon.

Role player at best. Not important to our long term success at all.

Significantly

Frost has great burst speed but there’s no way he can run with the consistency required by a permanent midfielder

And as others have pointed out he doesn’t have the smarts for it either

Most opposition players think our club is a joke, they’re correct. The West Coast players after our loss to them at Optus where saying we were chit during the song.

U mean the game that but fr crap kicking fr goal , [censored] umpires and a freak Liam Ryan mark we would have won. We dominated them that day....so who cares what they said.

Ya the game we lost...

SAM FROST (MEL)

Melbourne aren’t desperate to keep him and the likes of North Melbourne rate him more highly than they do. He has averaged seven intercepts this year but mixes the sublime with the ridiculous as a footballer. The Roos need stoppers. He fits the bill as a Scott Thompson replacement.

Frosty confirmed this morning that we are yet to give him a contract offer, while Hawthorn and one other club have approached his management about his availability.

A few quotes here:

Hawthorn has contacted Sam Frost's management to ask about its chances of landing the uncontracted Demons defender.

Frost confirmed the approach today and said there was a clear expression of interest from at least one other club.

He said he is still waiting on a contract offer from Melbourne after playing every game this season.

"There is one other club that definitely have (called) and I'm sure there's others that have inquired," he said on SEN this morning.

"Based on my age (26) and the year I've had, I imagine there would have been a few phone calls but I don't know how serious a lot of those phone calls are or aren't so I'll just leave that to Anthony (McConville, manager)."

Frost said he would catch up with McConville "in the next couple of days" to discuss his options as they wait for a new contract from Melbourne.

"There's no deadline or anything like that, so I'm not sure, to be honest (when a Demons offer will come) but obviously time's getting thin so the sooner the better, I suppose.

"The longer it goes on waiting on Melbourne is probably the difficult part of it. You never know how these things are going to unfold.

"I try and steer clear of a lot of it but as far as I'm told through my management they're having good conversations with Melbourne. That's where I'd like to be."

Thanks @Wiseblood

I'd say we are waiting to hewr from some fas tht are currently still playing.

None of this will be sorted until the fa window opens in October.

Good day for getting out

If I was frosty I’d be thinking so what’s the hold up? My contract is predicated on some other deals/inbound? Yeah, nah. See ya dees. He’d look good in a hawks strip

Sounds like his manager has been pumping his tyres up and he's going along with that. Every chance his manger is talking to the Dees and asking for a figure that might be 25% or more above what we are prepared to pay. It could end up like the Weid situation where he ends up signing for a lot less than originally asked, or he could find that his manager locks in a much better deal elsewhere and leaves. I hope the Dees stick to their guns and don't overpay on the back of his season, yes it was the best he's played yet however it still was nowhere near as good as some on here think.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
