All u [censored] that want to trade viney wash your mouth out, he has not had a preseason in 3 years, he has finally gotten over his foot and you lot want to trade him, big come year for jack.

They diidn't say that at all, Tom  Morris reported Viney was leaving at the end of the year of his own accord to take up interests outside of football.

How on earth is this different to your quote from dz?

Still looked like 1 in all in to me. Very little structure

Lack of skills at AFL Level is inexcusable, and this is the main thing i will be watching next year

These senior coaches don't teach skills do they? By the time a kid is recruited he must have the skills. Then teach tactics, game plans etc.

why don't we accept that we haven't had a high draft pick for some years. The newbies we played this year were not exactly high-flyers. They were deficient in skills, otherwise they would have been higher in the draft. But they filled gaps left by senior players, and they were not up to it. Inevitably one or two will make it, look, eg, at  Harmes.

in 2020 we will have one ( at least)  exciting new talent. More importantly, if each of TomMac, May, Lever, VDB, Hannan, Joel Smith are available following a decent preseason , if Viney and others who largely played this year but didn't  have a preseason, then you will see an infinitely more skilful team

Clearly Pert is trying to right the ship as best he can, one can only hope he is up to the task.

Not sure if it will turn out to be successful, but it's better than if nothing was done at all.

Clearly?  Nope.  Viney leaving by his own hand.  CEO should focus on the business.  If Pert is involved in somehow giving Viney a nudge, then we are in terrible, terrible trouble.

Well that increases the chances of Junior leaving for “family reasons”.

What is our business if not football though?

Don't really think it's a coincidence that McCartney, Jennings, Rawlings, Viney and apparently some admin staff have all left since the internal review started (and more will come I believe).

Mahoney would be the one doing the shoulder tapping, but he's been given direction from Pert.

Leaving with his sanity still intact. Time to turn the page and begin a new chapter for both he and the club?

While you might be right, surely Todd didn't decide to buy a farm and start milking cows simply because he was tapped on the shoulder? Not exactly an overnight decision

As far as I've heard he wasn't asked to leave, he already had 'something else' lined up a while back, so I'm not saying he got the shoulder tap, but gut feel is with all the cut backs and changes we weren't making Todd feel indispensable.

Fair enough. I agree with you the others have the feel of a clean out; Todd's departure just feels like a 'right time' thing

You're kidding right?

As ceo i expect pert to be involved in all aspects of club. Especially given his own playing background  etc.

Good signs. No sacred coes.

Cut backs?

Can't remember who or where (sorry!) but it was posted on Demonland that there was some staff cutbacks going on at the club in the admin departments.

Jesus H Christ, he has bought a farm and has decided to change his career path. All of you negative nellies suggesting there is some plot to rid people in roles at club, get a grip. Christ, if the club came out and said they had found a cure for cancer there would be some of you putting a negative spin on that!

Superfluous or underperforming more like it. I wouldn’t be repeating idle speculation about cutbacks.

No, that’s getting rid of people who don’t have the requisite skills. Cutbacks indicate they won’t be replaced by those that have. Difficult concept for you?

I think I recall something along those lines, maybe in the disaster thread relating our meeting with the AFL commission.

Personally don’t believe it, we’ve finally got some cash and 1 bad season we pull the shutters down? Happy to be corrected but doesnt make sense to me. As Mach said above id think a non-review/review/Pert making his moves after a some time in the role type clean out is more likely.

I find the Richardson situation bizarre and poorly communicated to be honest. The club and Alan know what his role is, he would've been offered something to consider and make a decision, why the club isn't telling members/supporters is a bit weird. He didn't just come onboard and find out his role later.....

Agree that the whole thing seems a bit off, however it's not unlikely that they're waiting to fill other vacancies (Rawlings leaving) to 100% determine exactly what role he'd be working within the coaching department. He and the club probably know what role he's fulfilling, but would be awful to announce it then go back on it later with other personnel arriving. Does appear a lot like we grabbed him purely out of his senior experience.

Regardless of how you interpret it (not replacing staff who have left (and they have) and not replacing those who've been chopped (i know of at least one) there have been cuts within MFC's admin post end of season.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
